Help Protect a Recovering Desert Gem!
We asked for legislation to protect Fossil Creek as a national Wild and Scenic River, and Sen. McCain and Rep. Renzi recently answered this important call!
Now we need your help to ensure that this legislation becomes law and this magnificent, recovering desert gem is protected for future generations. Please contact your legislators to urge their support of bills to keep Fossil Creek forever wild and free (Senate bill 3762, House bill 5957).
Fossil Creek is a unique oasis in the high desert country of the Southwest, with iridescent waters, deep pools and waterfalls. Many of these rare qualities were lost for 100 years by a dam that diverted its waters, but are now being rediscovered since the dam was decommissioned last year.
As water was restored to Fossil Creek, Sen. McCain pledged to sponsor a bill that would protect the stream as a National Wild and Scenic River. Now Sen. McCain and Rep. Renzi have fulfilled that pledge.
