Subject: DawnWatch: ABC’s nightline to cover pig welfare — Tuesday 11/14/06

On Monday, ABC gave us the following promo for the Tuesday, November 14 edition of Nightline:

“Tomorrow on ‘Nightline’ – hog heaven. Welcome to a new kind of farm where they raise pigs the old-fashioned way. Not keeping them in troughs and pumping them full of antibiotics, but naturally.

“REPORTER: So, these pigs actually have a life before they go to market?

“PIG OWNER: Just look at them. You know, they run and play. They have bedding. They socialize with their friends. They visit from family to family. Yes, happy pigs.”

——

For years pigs have been living in unconscionable conditions on factory farms (Check out www.factoryfarming.com) with no media attention. The Nightline coverage is one of many signs that things could be starting to change.

Watch if you can. Nightline airs at 11:30pm in most markets but check your local listings.

Most important, please thank Nightline for its attention to animal welfare issues. Positive feedback for coverage of animal issues will encourage more of it.

The show takes comments at abcnews.go.com/Nightline/News/story?id=64544.

My thanks to Monica Kerslake for making sure we knew about the coverage.

Yours and the animals’,
Karen Dawn
