Urge the Bureau of Land Management to Protect Bristol Bay

Bristol Bay is the largest sockeye salmon fishery in the world. The surrounding wild lands are beautiful and pristine, which is what makes this area so uncommonly productive. The health of fish, wildlife, and people supported by Bristol Bay is now threatened by dangerous plans for the largest open pit gold and copper mine in North America, Pebble Mine, to be situated in the bay’s headwaters. Complicating the issue even further, the Bureau of Land Management is planning to revoke existing protections on another million acres of public lands in this watershed, thereby making them available for commercial mining. Urge the Bureau of Land Management to abandon proposals to open these lands to mineral development.
