The California Healthy Pets Act (AB 1634) would require the spaying and neutering of most cats and dogs by the time the pet is four months old media reports that can be downloaded from the internet. It is authored and was introduced by Assemblymember Lloyd Levine.

Every year, over 800,000 pets are abandoned in California. 1. Attend the rally/press conference and hearing in Sacramento!

Supporters are needed at the Capitol on Monday, April 9th for a rallly/press conference at 2pm (west side Capitol steps) and at the Business and Professions Committee hearing at 9am on Tuesday, April 10th (room 447). Get all the details here.

The breeders are motivated — they are faxing and will show up. Our side must do the same and we must outnumber them!

2. Call the Business and Professions Committee!

This is vital – the bill sits in the hands of Mike Eng and the Co-Chair, Bill Emmerson. Please call them and urge their support. If you know shelters, rescues, politicians, veterinarians or any influential people, please ask them to call also.

Mike Eng, Committee Chair
Tel: (916) 319-2049
Democrat – District 49: San Marino, San Gabriel, East San Gabriel, Alhambra, Rosemead, South San Gabriel, Monterey Park, El Monte, South El Monte, North El Monte

Bill Emmerson, Committee Co-Chair
Tel: (916) 319-2063
Republican – District 63: Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, San Bernardino, Highland, Loma Linda, Fontana, Grand Terrace, Yucaipa, Moreno Valley, Riverside, Redlands

3. LA Residents: Help this Weekend on Important Project!

The goal: every person who is going to be in Sacramento Monday for the rally/press conference to be wearing a T-shirt with the image of a different dog and cat that died in a California shelter. Decision makers and the press need to see the faces of those that die because of their unwillingness to take this issue seriously.

The League of Humane Voters has purchased 200 T-shirts which say “This animal was destroyed at taxpayer’s expense.” Volunteers are needed to print out pictures onto special transfer paper and iron them onto the T-shirts on Saturday, April 7th. Can you help? Please call Lisa, LCA’s Campaign’s Director, at (818) 681-3672 ASAP for more information.

This is a giant undertaking, but it can – and must – be done. If you can’t attend the rally, this is a great project to help out on!
