IDA: Protest Hartford Hospital’s Live Pig Trauma Lab
May 26th, 2007 4:07 pm by Kelly GarbatoProtest Hartford Hospital’s Live Pig Trauma Lab
We recently learned that Hartford Hospital , in concert with the UConn School of Medicine, administers a monthly program called the Advanced Trauma Operative Management course (ATOM). ATOM includes a 3-hour lab session during which surgery trainees and practitioners manage 14 different traumatic injuries (see right column of page 472) that are intentionally inflicted in live adult pigs. The animals must suffer through penetrating injuries such as stab wounds to numerous organs in the abdomen and chest, including the kidney, stomach, spleen and heart.
Please “take action” to protest Hartford Hospital’s live pig trauma lab.
Also, be sure to check out this article in the Hartford Courant, and vote in the poll which asks “Should hospitals and medical schools have trainees and students operate on living animals?” (it’s on the right-hand side of the page).
