Chicago Update: Lawsuit Rejected; Repeal Ordinance Introduced

On Tuesday, June 12, a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Illinois Restaurant Association (IRA) to overturn Chicago’s foie gras ban. U.S. District Judge Blanche Manning summed up her 26-page ruling by stating, “Chicago’s ban of foie gras sales in restaurants does not exceed the City’s home rule powers or violate the dormant Commerce Clause. Thus, the Ordinance does not violate the Illinois or United States Constitutions.” Read more.

Zoop in Top Form for ZOOP!

What would ZOOP! A Benefit for Farm Sanctuary be without Zoop, a favorite friendly veteran of Farm Sanctuary’s New York Shelter goat barn? Fortunately, we won’t have to find out. Farm Sanctuary is the nation’s leading farm animal protection organization. Since incorporating in 1986, we have worked to expose and stop cruel practices of the “food animal” industry through research and investigations, legal and legislative actions, public awareness projects, youth education, and direct rescue and refuge efforts. Our shelters in Watkins Glen, NY and Orland, CA provide lifelong care for hundreds of rescued animals, who have become ambassadors for farm animals everywhere by educating visitors about the realities of factory farming.
