Make Your Plans for Taking Action for Animals 2007
Taking Action for Animals 2007, the leading national conference of the animal advocacy movement, will kick off in Washington, DC on July 28. The conference will last for three days, including a special lobbying day on Capitol Hill, and will bring activists — both new and seasoned — together with movement leaders and other experts from across the country.
Taking Action for Animals is designed to motivate, inspire, and teach advocates how to be a voice for animals. This year’s conference will have a special focus on taking action for farmed animals. It will also cover other timely animal issues such as the pet food recall, and is filled with sessions and training workshops — including hands-on training in lobbying, media relations, advocacy campaigns, and much more.
The conference’s downtown Washington, DC location offers attendees a unique opportunity to network with animal welfare leaders and hundreds of grassroots activists, lobby in the heart of the U.S. government, and also view the historic sites of our nation’s capital. Additionally, an array of restaurants, shops, other attractions, and public transportation are all just moments away.
The Animal Protection Institute is a co-sponsor of this year’s event, and is one of the founding organizations of the Taking Action for Animals conferences.

Minnesota Residents: Help Put an End to Circus Animal Cruelty
This alert is being sent by the Animal Protection Institute on behalf of Circus Reform Yes.
On June 29, Minneapolis City Council Member Remington plans to introduce the Animal Protection Amendment, which will end the cruel use of exotic animals in circuses in the city of Minneapolis. If passed, this Amendment will make Minneapolis the largest American city to prohibit wild and exotic animal circuses.
To be sure that this issue is heard by the Council, and that exotic animals are given the welfare considerations they deserve, your help is urgently needed to disseminate information in advance of the introduction date — to ensure the protection of exotic animals within the city of Minneapolis.
With your voice, Minneapolis can take a giant step forward in becoming a truly humane city.

North Carolina Residents: Protect Exotic “Pets” and Your Community
Previously we wrote to you regarding SB 1477, asking that you take action to help exotic animals in North Carolina. These animals are now in urgent need of your voice. If you have not done so already, please call and write your Senator today and urge him or her to support legislation to prohibit the private possession of exotic animals.
SB 1477, introduced by Senator Ed Jones, will prohibit the future possession of inherently dangerous wild animals such as lions, tigers, bears, nonhuman primates, and dangerous reptiles.
SB 1477 will protect the public against the health and safety risks that inherently dangerous wild animals pose, and will protect the welfare of the animals themselves.
North Carolina is 1 of only 9 states that currently have no regulations prohibiting private possession of inherently dangerous wild animals.
Time is of the essence! Calls and letters are needed now to ensure that North Carolina comes in line with the majority of states who already prohibit the keeping of these animals.
