Protest4Bandit

On June 8, 2007 Michael Morin of Biddeford, ME broke into a truck, grabbed Bandit, a rat terrier, and slit his throat then throwing Bandit to the back of the truck to die. WOULD YOU EAT YOUR BEST FRIEND

THE South African Department of Agriculture intends changing the laws regarding our animals. It may soon be possible to eat dogs to accommodate the diverse cultures in our country. Dog lovers and sane human beings must be informed of this barbaric intention to allow our pets to be eaten if the ANC government gets its way. If it becomes law in our country then any dog is fair game to unscrupulous butchers and thieves, even the ones you love. [Read more...]

Ban chaining your dog outside or in the garage!

Chaining your dog in the yard is both inhumane and a threat to the dog, and other people’s safety. Why you ask? Dogs thrive on interaction with human beings and other animals. A dog kept chained in one spot for hours, days, months, or even years suffers great psychological damage. An otherwise tame dog, when kept continuously chained, becomes neurotic, unhappy, anxious, and often aggressive. Most of the time, sores and cuts form where the dog is chained. Doing this to dogs is also bad for humans in that they become very aggressive over their territory and could attack anyone who threatens that. [Read more...]

Stop the Latest Assault on Our Wolves

The Bush/Cheney Administration has announced two proposals to jumpstart the killing of hundreds of wolves in the Yellowstone area and elsewhere in the Northern Rockies. Officials in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are now seeking public comment on the agency’s proposal to accept Wyoming’s disastrous wolf management plan and to give Idaho and Wyoming vast new powers to kill wolves — even while these magnificent animals remain listed under the Endangered Species Act. Urge Conan O’Brien to Help Save Manatees on Hornymanatee.com

Recently, “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” featured a skit about manatees that brought the imperiled animal into the public limelight. During the skit, O’Brien drove people to a website – www.hornymanatee.com, which has received over 3 million hits. O’Brien’s featuring of the manatee has thus far been full of fun and jest, but the plight of the manatee is no joke – only 3,116 remain in the wild in the United States. [Read more...]

Urge Congress to Permanently Protect the Arctic Refuge!

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is home to caribou, snow fox and millions of migratory birds. It is also the most important onshore denning habitat for America’s vanishing polar bears. Highway Up – A solution to unite economic development and conservation within the Andes-Amazon region

The Interoceanic Highway is currently under construction in South America. It is predicted to result in unprecedented destruction of the Amazon – the largest tropical forest in the world. In southern Peru the highway will slice through the Andes-Amazon region, critical habitat of the highly threatened Andean Bear, as well as jaguars, giant otters, and more than 1,200 other species of mammals and birds. Once the highway is complete, the wilderness these species inhabit today will be forever cut in two, separated by a growing corridor of deforestation along the highway. [Read more...]

HELP MAKE NYC PLASTIC BAG SAFE!

Plastic bags eat up fossil fuel, litter streets and choke wildlife. What’s more, it is estimated that plastic bags can take between 500 and 1000 years to decompose! The Board of Supervisors have proposed a ban on plastic bags for large grocers in San Francisco. If this law were passed, large stores would have to offer customers bags made of recycled paper, plastic that can be composted or bags that can be reused. Violators would be required to pay a fine. Husky Justice

On 22 February 2007, Phillip Matthysen, a South African man reportedly killed his Husky puppy after it instinctively bit out at his parrot and killed it (News24.com, 19 June 2007). It was reported that along with an accomplice, he allegedly proceeded to hold the dog down and cut its head off with a chainsaw. Often, people committing similar hideous acts stand to walk free with little or no consequences – this site exists to help gather support to stop this from happening! I have spoken to Mr. G Schultz, the prosecutor on this case, and arranged to meet him on July 23rd. I plan to give him a minimum of 25 000 of our signatures. There is no guarantee that this action will have the desired effect however our hope is that at worst, the magistrate will know there are more people watching this case than just those sitting in the court room.
