THE FUND FOR ANIMALS SPECIAL REPORT
October 24, 2007

I wanted to provide you with up-to-date information about the animals currently under the care of The Fund for Animals Wildlife Center in Ramona, Calif (can be found online at community.hsus.org/ct/TpS7Mss1Fzi-/).

Fortunately the facility — and all the animals — have so far been spared the ravages of California’s wildfires.

Animals living in permanent sanctuary there — including an African lion, a pigmy hippo, mountain lions and bobcats — remain in their natural enclosures. They are alert but not stressed. They are under the care of manager Chuck Traisi and a group of volunteers.

The 13-acre facility, which also serves the region as a major rehabilitation center for wildlife, is free of brush and other fuels. Water has been shut off, but volunteers have arranged to bring in fresh supplies.

Some staff members ordered evacuated on Tuesday are now prepared to return. Wildlife rehabilitation facilities will be as ready
as possible in the wake of the fires.

Thank you for caring about animals,

Michael Markarian
President
The Fund for Animals
