National Alert: Binoculars for the Birds

Please send API your used or new binoculars to help Indonesian children learn that birds are more beautiful wild.

The Animal Protection Institute (API) is teaming up with the Indonesian Parrot Project (IPP) to provide binoculars to Indonesian schoolchildren.

The binoculars will be used in conjunction with the educational curriculum provided by IPP to teach Indonesian children the importance of conservation, the cruelty of the wild bird trade, and the benefits of leaving birds in the wild.

Putting an end to this internal trade in wild birds will require a change in attitudes toward keeping birds captive, coupled with an increased appreciation for birds in the wild.

Indonesia is home to some of the most diverse and beautiful birds in the world. Despite this, many Indonesian children have never seen these birds in their natural habitat.

With your help, we can make a real difference for children and birds in Indonesia.

New Designs Available at API’s CafePress Store

Dan Piraro has generously loaned two of his works for National Bird Day to help raise awareness of the plight of captive birds.

Anyone familiar with the popular “Bizarro” cartoons featured in many major newspapers knows that Dan often uses humor to highlight important animal issues. But his contribution to animal advocacy does not stop there. He is also a vegan and a tireless advocate for the animals — donating much of his time and work to help our furbearing, finned, and feathered friends. Thanks, Dan!
