Subject: ADOPT - Don’t Buy This Holiday Season & Join The Puppy Store Protest!

This holiday season children and adults of all ages will be given a new companion animal. Unfortunately, the cute little puppy or kitten for sale in the pet store or on the internet probably came from a “puppy mill,” a mass breeding facility that put profits over the health and well-being of puppies and their parents.Happy Rescue Puppy

Each year over 2 million puppy mill puppies are sold in the United States. Puppies travel hundred of miles in pickup trucks, tractor trailers, and/or airplanes, often without adequate food, water, ventilation, or shelter. If the puppies survive the horrors of transport, conditions don’t imporve much when they reach their destination; young dogs kept in small cages without exercise, love, or human contact tend to develop undesireable behaviors and may bark excessively or become destructive or unsociable. Puppies that do not sell and become too old to be a valuable product are either killed, become “brood bitches,” or are sold to laboratories for research or product testing.

Spread the word, ADOPT - Don’t Buy! To stop the puppy mill industry, consumers must stop buying animals from pet stores. You can create change!

Please ADOPT - Don’t Buy this Holiday Season!

LCA is asking you to get involved in our ADOPT -Don’t Buy campaign.

Here are a couple quick and easy ways to make a difference.

1. ADOPT - Don’t Buy - Did you know that approximately 1 in 4 cats and dogs in shelters are pure bred? Contact a local shelter or rescue organization if you are considering a new companion animal. Remember, companion animals should never be given as a gift without first considering the lifestyle and the overall fit of the animal and the new guardian!

2. Spread the Word - Talk to your family and friends about puppy mills and the problems of companion animal overpopulation. Contact our volunteer coordinator at volunteer [at] lcanimal.org and request LCA’s puppy mill brochures.

3. Reach Out - Volunteer at your local shelter this holiday season (and throughout the year). Spend time walking dogs or playing with cats. A couple hours of your time can provide a great deal of comfort for these needy animals.

4. Speak Out - Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper about the pet stores or puppy mills in your community. A short, polite letter is most effective. Contact LCA for more information.

5. Take a Stand - Join us at our event in Bevely Hills or organize your own demonstration or outreach event in front of a pet store that sells animals. See below for event details.
