12/27/07: Don’t Blow This Landmark Chance For Farmed Animals
JUST WEEKS LEFT…
DO YOU LIVE IN CALIFORNIA?
DO YOU KNOW ANYONE WHO LIVES IN CALIFORNIA?
Duh, of course you do!
The signatures of 650,000 registered California voters must be submitted by the end of February 2008 for the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act to qualify for the November 2008 ballot. This legislation would prevent:
* Confinement of pregnant pigs in two-foot wide gestation crates where they can barely move.
* Confinement of male calves in veal crates where they’re chained by the neck from birth until death.
* Confinement of six to nine egg-laying hens in a battery cage no larger than a filing drawer.
ACT NOW FOR FARMED ANIMALS!
CALIFORNIANS: Volunteer to collect signatures today.

NON-CALIFORNIANS: Forward this email to all California friends, family
members and/or California lists and sites.

Unbelievably, in a state as progressive as California, one signature gatherer tells Kinship Circle: “We are currently behind in signatures and it really only takes 3-4 hours per week for each person to get 75-100 signatures weekly.”
BACKGROUND:
Californians for Humane Farms — sponsored by The Humane Society of the United States, Farm Sanctuary and other animal protection groups, family farmers, veterinarians and public health professionals — has launched a groundbreaking ballot initiative campaign to place the California Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act on the November 2008 ballot.
Why California? California is the largest agricultural state in the U.S. — providing us with an excellent opportunity to save millions of animals a year from extreme, gratuitous suffering… Polling has consistently shown most Americans oppose the cruelty of veal crates, gestation crates and battery cages, yet it is extremely difficult to convince the legislature to pass laws banning these confinement systems, thanks to the influence that huge factory farming corporations exert over many legislative offices. The ballot initiative system allows citizens to place an issue on the ballot for a vote directly by the people…
