The “Abigail’s Party” and “Life is Sweet” actor travels to Canada to take in the beauty of the baby harp seals on the ices floes – one of the world’s great wildlife spectacles – before the annual commercial seal hunt.

Alison Steadman will be joining Respect for Animals and “America’s Next Top Model” judge and fashion photographer, Nigel Barker.

When: Monday 3 March 2008 and Tuesday 4 March 2008

Who: Alison Steadman
Nigel Barker, judge “America’s Next Top Model”
Mark Glover, director, Respect for Animals and Humane Society International (UK)
Wayne Pacelle, president & CEO, Humane Society of the United States

What: Seal Watch 2008
Live broadcast interviews & high res images available daily
Phone interviews available on request

Where: Gulf of St Lawrence, east coast of Canada.

Background: The annual commercial seal hunt is due to begin in the area in late March. The largest marine mammal hunt in the world, over 1 million seals have been bludgeoned and shot to death, the vast majority of them less than three months of age, over the last three years.

The European Parliament has recently voted for a ban on the import of all seal products into the EU.

The European Commission is currently considering such legislation, a public consultation has just been completed (Feb 2008) and an announcement is imminent.
