People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Urgent: Eight Dogs in Mississippi Need Your Voice!
Unable to convince officials to take action to help eight emaciated dogs in Purvis, Forrest County, Mississippi, caring and desperate area residents contacted PETA for help. We are told that in addition to appearing to be emaciated and living in their own waste, these dogs’ collars are far too tight (which can cause them to become imbedded in the dogs’ flesh, leading to severe pain and infection).
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Urgent: Roosters Left Behind in Cockfighting Raid!
On February 24, deputies in Anderson County, South Carolina, raided an apparent cockfighting ring, arresting 88 people, according to local media. Deputies reportedly found four roosters who had been forced to fight to the death and 15 birds who were still alive. PETA caseworkers were horrified to learn that officials left the birds with the alleged operator of the cockfighting ring, Henry Dale Stargel! Stargel faces charges for operating the cockfighting ring, and we understand that the surviving birds remain on his property.
