Action Alerts

American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA): Federal: Protect Nonhuman Primates–Support the Captive Primate Safety Act
The Captive Primate Safety Act would bar interstate commerce of nonhuman primates for the pet trade, including monkeys, apes, marmosets and lemurs. This vital legislation would protect the public and captive primates from the dangers that result when these exotic animals are sold as pets.

With a Climate Security Act vote on the horizon in June in the U.S. Senate, now is the time to go the extra mile and mail your senators a message supporting this important wildlife conservation bill. [Note: If you don’t believe the Climate Security goes far enough, you can also send your Senators a letter asking them to amend it to fall in line with the Principles for Global Warming Legislation; more here.]

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Tell Jack in the Box to Stop the Monkey Business
Please urge Jack in the Box to stop airing this commercial immediately and follow the lead of Subaru, which recently enacted a policy to ban the use of great apes in all future advertising campaigns. Remind the company that there is no reason to use live apes as actors when animation, blue screen, computer-generated imagery (CGI), and other highly advanced technologies can produce realistic substitutes.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Demand That Charges Be Filed Against Apparent Puppy Fighters!
PETA caseworkers couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw videos posted on MySpace depicting several young men who were apparently forcing puppies to fight. The videos show several pit bull puppies who were fighting each other. The puppies repeatedly attempt to “back off” from the fight—as is their instinct—but the young men continually bring the puppies face-to-face, shaking and jostling the animals to enrage them.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Urgent: Speak Out for Animals Still With Apparent Washington State Hoarder!
For three years, concerned residents of Colville, Washington, reportedly did their best to provide a menagerie of animals—at Cindy Nixon’s 2341-B Bodie Mountain Rd. residence—with the sustenance they needed to survive, including food and water. Unwilling to continue witnessing the apparent neglect of Nixon’s two horses, two dogs, 23 cats, and at least a dozen rabbits, these kind and caring people called PETA. They say that over the years, Stevens County officials have failed to take any serious action in this case.

Public Citizen: Stop the Colombia FTA - Take Action Now!
The Colombia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) replicates almost exactly all of the harmful provisions we fought so hard in our opposition to the Peru FTA last fall. And now we have a direct link between Colombia’s murderous right-wing paramilitaries and the government.

The Wilderness Society: Urge Congress to Protect Wyoming Range
The Wyoming Range is one of those rare places where people of every background can agree on one thing – it’s too special to drill. That’s why Congress is considering a bill to protect the Wyoming Range from oil and gas drilling. Please tell the Forest Service to cancel and withdraw all of the 44,700 acres of contested leases along the eastern flank of the Wyoming Range.

World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA): Protest against the suffering of Spanish bulls
A public protest met the start of Catalonia’s bullfighting season, which signals the slaughter of over a hundred bulls each year. Anti-bullfighting organizations took to the Barcelona streets in April to campaign against cruelty. Will you sign up to support them?
