American Rights at Work: Tell Your Senators to Protect Public Safety
Firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical service personnel are often the first on the scene for emergencies big and small. But tens of thousands of these public safety officers do not have the right to negotiate with their employers, leaving them without a voice at work. S. 2123 would ensure that all public safety officers have the opportunity to meet with local officials to discuss their jobs and how best to protect the public.
American Rivers: RiverAlert: Help Support the WaterSense Program
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) wants to make it easier for you to find water-efficient appliances that help protect your community’s water supply. American Rivers partnered with the EPA to launch the WaterSense program to certify and label water-efficient products. However, to move forward, the program needs more funding. Please ask your Members of Congress to include at least $5 million in the Interior, Environment Appropriations bill for the WaterSense program.
Humane Society of the United States (HSUS): New Video Shows More Abuses of Farm Animals
Please ask the USDA to act now to close the loophole that allows some downers to be slaughtered for food, and to require immediate, humane euthanasia of all downers.
National Wildlife Federation (NWF): Stop Drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge!
Your senators will be voting soon on an amendment that would allow drilling for oil in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge and THEY NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU. The McConnell Domenici Amendment (No. 4720) would not only allow for drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge and Intermountain West, it would also threaten public lands in the Rocky Mountain West, pollute drinking water, and endanger marine habitat on the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
National Wildlife Federation (NWF): Oppose the Final Passage of the 2007 Farm Bill
Congress is about to vote on the Farm Bill. Unfortunately the final bill includes drastic cuts in funding for the Conservation Reserve Program and Wetlands Reserve Programs. Another key provision was removed from the bill in the final weeks, which encourage taxpayer dollars to be spent on farmers to plow already shrinking prairie grass, further threatening wildlife and adding to global warming pollution.
Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC): Save America’s Redrock Wilderness
Tell your senators to protect Utah’s wildlands by opposing S. 2834 unless its serious flaws are fixed.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Make Sure Aging Rapper DMX Sings Jailhouse Blues if Convicted!
According to a May 9, 2008, news release issued by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, “[T]he famed rapper/actor known as DMX (Dark Man X) was arrested hours ago at his home in Cave Creek pursuant to indictments on seven (7) misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and four (4) felony drug possession charges.” This indictment stems from officials’ alleged August discovery of 12 neglected and malnourished pit bulls—many of whom were also reportedly scarred—on the rapper’s property north of Phoenix.
