Dear New Jersey Advocates – At the ASPCA, we very often are asked about the punishments in animal cruelty cases—specifically, why aren’t they stronger? As you are probably aware, the categorization of crimes (and their punishments) is under the control of your state’s government, and changing the law is a difficult and lengthy process, no matter how just the cause.

The (IWC) meets from June 23rd – 27th in Santiago, Chile, to make decisions about issues affecting whales. The Commission members may consider a proposal to create a South Atlantic Whale Sanctuary that will extend across the South Atlantic, from the coast of South America to the coast of Africa. We need your help to encourage IWC member countries around to world to vote ‘YES’ on the sanctuary.

Prompted by a complaint from PETA, federal officials are investigating allegations that animals are being abused and killed in Pierce College’s veterinary technology program—in violation of federal animal welfare regulations—by an instructor and her students.

This landmark legislation sets forth in concrete, detailed terms a progressive vision for good trade agreements in the future and criteria to renegotiate existing failed pacts like NAFTA and the WTO.
