Kinship Circle has been asked to continue staffing two surge shelters for Iowa flood victims for the remainder of this week and next week.

County coordinators at both Lee County Fairgrounds and Johnson County Fairgrounds need VOLUNTEERS TO ASSIST WITH EMERGENCY SHELTERING DUTIES.

Indoor facility with cots for volunteers

JOHNSON COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS is the emergency shelter for Iowa City Animal Shelter, which remains underwater. This temporary site currently has approx. 100+ flood and pre-flood animals. There is no known date the flooded shelter will reopen. Volunteer staffing is needed to maintain operations and keep animals as comfortable as possible in this setting. Those with animal handling/shelter experience who wish to help flood-displaced animals should volunteer at this site.
