Environmental Defense Fund: Thank Your Senators For Cleaning Up Shipping Pollution!
Thanks to you, the Senate passed the Marine Pollution Prevention Act late Thursday night! As soon as this bill is reconciled with the House version, the U.S. will be able to ratify an international treaty to clean up the toxic pollution from large cargo and cruise ships that are polluting our communities.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Tell Fairfax Petland to Stop Freezing Baby Animals Alive
Petland is a national chain that sells puppies, kittens, birds, and small animals. It is reprehensible for pet stores to contribute to the overpopulation crisis, which affects all companion animals, and this indefensible and unscrupulous practice is a more than sufficient cause for action. But Petland has really outdone itself this time. PETA has obtained video footage of baby mice and rats being frozen alive so that they can be sold as snake food at at the Petland store located at 9404-A Main St. in Fairfax, Virginia.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Urge the USDA to Put Video Cameras in Slaughterhouses
PETA’s undercover investigators can’t be everywhere at once, and the USDA inspectors who are supposed to prevent the worst abuses of animals are not getting the job done. So we need your help—ask the USDA to install cameras in slaughterhouses.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Tell Edward Jones to Celebrate Without Cruelty
After PETA learned that investment firm Edward Jones hired Ringling Bros. & Barnum and Bailey Circus for a private performance to celebrate the opening of its 10,000th branch, we immediately contacted the company to urge executives to cancel the show. Edward Jones Managing Partner James Weddle ignored our request and refused to return our calls to discuss the issue.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Urge Mayor to Clean Up Horrific Conditions at ShanChong Animal Shelter
For several years, PETA has been monitoring the government-run ShanChong animal shelter near Taipei and working with government officials in the area to improve the lives of animals at the facility. But instead of improving, conditions have continued to deteriorate.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Take Action for Elephant Jenny at Dallas Zoo
The Dallas Zoo has announced that it intends to send Jenny, the zoo’s solitary African elephant, to a Mexican zoo rather than to an elephant sanctuary in the U.S. In a foreign zoo, Jenny would not be protected by the U.S. Animal Welfare Act, and U.S. authorities would have no power to ensure that she receives adequate care. In addition, Jenny will still be relegated to a substandard zoo exhibit.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Don’t Send Tigers Into a War Zone!
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) has received a request from a facility in North Carolina to send two tigers to the Baghdad Zoo in Iraq. When the war in Iraq began, media reported that hundreds of animals at the Baghdad Zoo were killed, stolen, eaten, stuffed, sold, or let loose by looters or escaped when mortar blasts damaged their cages. As the media continue to remind us, the military conflict in Iraq is far from over, and incidents of extreme violence are still commonplace

The Wilderness Society: Tell Congress Not to Drill the Arctic Refuge
The oil industry and its friends in the Bush Administration are engaged in a misleading campaign to link today’s high gas prices with a last-ditch effort to secure the right to drill in America’s last pristine places. They are pushing Congress to open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling. We need your help today to stop them. Drilling the Arctic Refuge will not lower gas prices, but it will cause permanent harm to a fragile Arctic ecosystem and the more than 250 species that depend on it. Tell your Representative and Senators not to sacrifice the Arctic Refuge to Big Oil.

The Wilderness Society: Protect Our Best Lands from Unnecessary Oil and Gas Drilling!
The Bush Administration and the oil and gas industry are trying to use Americans’ understandable concern over gas prices to open more lands to drilling. Industry already has way more public land than it can drill responsibly, and analysts agree that more drilling is not the key to lowering our gasoline prices. Make sure Congress knows there are plenty of Americans who don’t buy this latest public relations ploy from the oil industry.

World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA): Stop the cruelty of Australia’s live export trade
As the world’s largest exporter of sheep, Australia is responsible for the suffering of millions of animals every year. Help convince Australia’s Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, it is time to make a change.
