Animal Person: On Returning Your Copy of “Dominion”
Aja wrote the following comment on “Matthew Scully Wrote Sarah Palin’s Speech:” “I am so sad about Scully. I have decided to send my book back to him via his publisher. Would anyone like to join me? Maybe he can let Palin borrow it.” I think that’s a fantastic idea.
Animal Person: On Amazon Reviews and Dogtown
“[P]lease go to Scully’s link on Amazon and counter all the uncritical praise by writing a proper review of his book and his politics.” (The Customer Review page is here, and you’ll notice there’s already discussion in the comments section of the reviews post September 4 that was obviously due to Scully writing Sarah Palin’s speech.)
Animal Welfare Institute (AWI): HORSE SLAUGHTER BILL UP FOR COMMITTEE VOTE
AWI has learned that the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act (H.R. 6598) will be voted on by the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, September 10th. The bill, which was introduced in July by Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) and Representative Dan Burton (R-IN), will criminalize the slaughter of American horses. While the vast majority of Americans, the United States Congress and members of the House Judiciary Committee support an end to horse slaughter there are some members on the committee who are staunch supporters of horse slaughter and will attempt to kill the bill through subterfuge.

National Horse Protection Action Fund: Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act Coming to a Vote!
We have an opportunity right now to move forward with the fight against horse slaughter. This Wednesday, September 10th, the House Judiciary Committee will vote on the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act (H.R. 6598). This legislation is sponsored by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) and Congressman Dan Burton (R-IN) and would prohibit the purchase, sale, transport or delivery of horses intended for human consumption. The bill addresses the cruelty associated with horse slaughter, something that even defenders of slaughter admit exists.
Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC): Urgent – Tell Congress to say Yes to clean energy and No to drilling
As high energy costs are challenging households across America, Congress is scheduled to vote on comprehensive energy legislation in the coming days. Urge your senators and representative to pass legislation that focuses on clean energy technologies and does not expand offshore drilling.
The Sierra Club: Tell Congress Not to Purchase Dirty Fuels!
Last year Congress voted to move us toward a cleaner energy future, passing the No Dirty Fuels provision of the energy bill, which ensures that the government does not buy any fuel that is dirtier than what we currently use, including liquid coal. Now the No Dirty Fuels provision is under attack. The coal industry is lobbying hard for special handouts for liquid coal, special government contracts to jumpstart the costly and massively polluting industry.
