With gas prices at record levels, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has felt public concern and agreed to debate expanding oil drilling as part of an energy package that will also include clean energy and measures for immediate relief. By putting everything on the table, the Speaker expects clean energy to show its superior merits. Because a vote on extending the Congressional moratorium on offshore oil exploration is due—and is not expected to pass–permitting a small amount of new drilling for now can save the moratorium on all others areas.
