Defenders of Wildlife: The Missing Link for Lynx
What’s the missing link for lynx? The habitat they need to survive in the wild. Designating “critical habitat” for lynx is the best tool we have to identify and preserve the areas that these vanishing cats need to survive — and to restore them to places where they naturally belong. Unfortunately, while the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s revised critical habitat plan for lynx is a step in the right direction, it still falls short of offering the level of protections these rare forest cats need to survive. Now they need to hear from wildlife supporters who care about ensuring real lynx recovery.

Earthjustice: Protect the Wolves in the Northern Rockies
Just when you thought gray wolves were safely back on the endangered species list, the Bush administration has launched another 11th hour attack to strip them of federal protections. Following its recent failed attempt to remove the wolves from the endangered species list, the administration’s Fish and Wildlife Service has issued a proposal allowing Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana to kill nearly 1,000 wolves — at a time when the wolf population is already declining. Please tell the Fish and Wildlife Service to keep the northern Rockies gray wolves on the endangered species list.

Environmental Defense Fund: Act Now: Urge the EPA to Limit Global Warming Pollution
One of the first, defining decisions facing President-elect Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency is whether to heed the Supreme Court and regulate global warming pollution under the Clean Air Act. We have an opportunity right now to shape that decision. Send an email to the EPA today supporting strong action under existing law to protect human health by reducing global warming pollution.

Greenpeace: Sign our petition encouraging President-elect Obama to go to the climate talks in Poland
Now is the time for America to show the rest of the world that we are back on track and that we’re serious about tackling global warming. America should be a leader in implementing solutions like strict efficiency standards, aggressive investment in renewable energy, and a cap on global warming pollution. The climate talks in Poznań are the perfect opportunity for us to rejoin the rest of the world in addressing the most urgent environmental crisis of our time. The path to a clean, sustainable future starts in Poznań – let’s make sure President-elect Obama is there to lead the way.

Invisible Voices: asking for changes
Change.org is doing this thing where they’re collecting ideas and having their members vote on them, and they’ll present the top 10 as their suggestions. There are a few animal rights related ideas, but there are few votes. If you’re of a mind to suggest an idea or vote on one, go check it out.

Oil Change International: Help Henry Waxman take down Dingell the Dinosaur!
Next week Democrats in Congress will make decisions on committee leadership. No committee is more important for potential action on energy and climate than the House Energy and Commerce Committee. For years, the committee has been controlled by 82 year old Rep. John Dingell, of Michigan, the biggest Democratic friend of the oil, auto and coal industries. Rep. Henry Waxman (CA) has announced his intention to challenge Dingell for the Chairmanship of this committee. Waxman, who is one of the most progressive members of Congress, would indeed represent real change. Contact your Democratic Representative below and let them know that you support Henry Waxman as Chair of the Energy & Commerce Committee.

Organic Consumers Association (OCA): President-Elect Obama: Please Support Organic Food & Farming
President-Elect Obama is in the process of formulating policy, assembling his transition team, and considering nominees for Secretary of Agriculture, among other important positions. The Secretary of Agriculture is responsible for directing the U.S. Department of Agriculture and its $90 billion annual budget, including the National Organic Program, food stamp and nutrition programs, and agriculture subsidies. Obama throughout his campaign, and since his election, has stressed that he wants to hear from the public in order to formulate his policies. Let’s all take him up on this invitation.

People for the American Way (PFAW): As the Obama administration transitions in, step one must be restoring the Constitution.
In the last few days, there have been a few reports that the Obama administration may not significantly change Bush administration intelligence policies. I take these reports with a grain of salt and I’m optimistic that President-elect Obama will deliver on his promises to restore the constitutional principles that have been trampled on these last eight years. But I also acknowledge that certain people in the intelligence policy discussions do not have the same commitment to Americans’ civil liberties. We need to speak up! Sign our petition right now bolstering President-elect Obama’s campaign commitments to restore constitutional rights and the rule of law.

True Food Now: It Came From The Grocery Store: Genetically Engineered Meat May Be Heading To A Supermarket Near You
Genetically engineered animals may be heading to your local supermarket faster than you think. Though creating animals in a lab sounds like science fiction, it’s happening right now: Genetically engineered super salmon, which grow twice as fast as normal farmed salmon, goats engineered with spider genes to produce silk in their milk, and pigs engineered with mouse and bacterial DNA to improve digestion. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is currently accepting public comments on its draft guidance for the commercialization of such GE animals, opening the way for grocery stores to sell food made from genetically engineered animals. And the agency is proposing that these products be sold to you without your knowledge.

The Wilderness Society: Say NO to Last-Minute Logging!
The federal Bureau of Land Management has just proposed opening thousands of acres of forests in western Oregon to logging. It’s a handoff to the timber industry, a huge loss to endangered species, and to the American public. But there’s still time to object! Your voice is absolutely critical in showing that the public cares about what happens to these forests. The BLM needs to know that Americans will not stand for degrading our streams and rivers, or the sale of some of our last ancient forests to the timber industry.

World Wildlife Fund (WWF): Urge Australia to take decisive action on climate change
The Australian Government will soon announce its greenhouse gas pollution reduction target for 2020. This critical decision will influence upcoming global climate change negotiations so you’re voice needs to be heard. Let Australian political leaders know its time for them to take decisive action on climate change.
