Consumer Watchdog: Stop Google From Reading Your Email (And Congress’s Too!)
Use the form below to ask Google’s board of directors to add important security measures to GMail and agree to basic privacy rights for all Web users. Read our recent letter to Google’s founders, and an earlier letter to the Justice Department.

DawnWatch: NY Times, LA Times and others speak up for whales against sonar 11/15/08
In October I shared news from the New York Times, in which we learned that the Supreme Court had “indicated an inclination to overturn a decision from the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, in San Francisco, imposing limits on the exercises, saying either that national security concerns trumped environmental ones or that judges are not competent to weigh the competing interests.” The New York Times followed the news with an editorial that argued strongly for the whales who are killed by the sonar.

Ecological Internet / Forests.org: Stop Bush’s Midnight Raid Upon Oregon’s Wild Forests and Rivers
Like his Presidency, it is time for President Bush’s looting, plundering, and pillaging of America’s natural beauty, ecological treasures and vital ecosystems to end.

Greenpeace: Join us in Poland!
In just a few weeks, leaders from all over the world will be gathering in Poznań, Poland to determine the next steps to address global warming. It’s time for the U.S. to show the rest of the world that we’re back on track and serious about tackling the most urgent environmental crisis of our time – and YOU can help! We’ve already asked President-elect Obama to go to Poland himself, and while it appears that he won’t be able to attend, it doesn’t mean you have to stay home, too. No, I’m not actually asking you to go to Poland, but if you send us your picture, we’ll take it to Poznań with us.

Human Rights First: We CAN win back the world’s trust and admiration.
Help us prove it by signing our open letter to the world. Right now, the world is watching to see whether the U.S. will make good on the promise of President-Elect Obama’s words… and I am hoping you’ll join me in sending them our answer. Make sure the world knows that Americans are serious about repairing our record on human rights and restoring our global leadership.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Breaking Investigation Reveals Holiday Horrors for Turkeys
While working at a series of Aviagen factory farms in West Virginia, PETA’s investigator documented that workers tortured, mutilated, and maliciously killed turkeys. Those who eat turkeys are supporting this cruelty. Please help us put an end to this suffering by leaving turkeys off your plate and by supporting PETA’s work in behalf of animals. Please also write to the National Turkey Federation and urge it to recommend that all turkey breeders implement PETA’s seven-point animal welfare plan.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Help Free Pigs From Gestation Crates and Chains
Recently, we were contacted about a pig operation in Sequoyah County, Okla. Sadly, the facility appears to be a prison more than anything else. According to several people who visited the operation, the animals there are being mistreated. We were told that pigs are kept in gestation crates, on concrete floors, and chained to the walls by their necks. By all accounts, the pigs at Pat’s Pig Palace are being subjected to an intense degree of confinement that is inherently cruel and unnecessary.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Urge Homeowners’ Association to Stop Poisoning Squirrels!
Santa Clarita, California, residents contacted PETA upon receiving a newsletter from the American Beauty Classics 1 Homeowners’ Association announcing its plans to slaughter the local squirrel population because of damage to a nearby hillside. PETA caseworkers immediately contacted the association’s board members and its management company, GM Management Inc., asking them to put an immediate stop to this cruel and ineffective poisoning plan and instead adopt humane alternatives. But so far, they have been unresponsive.

The Sierra Club: Tell the EPA to Regulate Greenhouse Gases and Make our Cars Cleaner
As you’ll read below, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has once again been told to account for carbon dioxide in power plants; now they need to do the same for cars. The EPA has the authority, and a duty to act now to limit global warming pollution from our vehicles and power plants. The technology to clean up cars and light trucks is available today and it is vital that the EPA act quickly and decisively to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases in order to avoid the worst consequences of global warming. Yet so far, the EPA has refused to act.

The Wilderness Society: Prevent pollution at Colorado’s Little Snake!
The bottom line is that the Bureau of Land Management must do a truly in-depth analysis of the impacts oil and gas development if it’s going to ensure that northwest Colorado’s air quality and pristine views remain clean and clear for generations to come. Join with us in encouraging the BLM’s Little Snake Office to make a truly informed decision for the region.
