Help Baby Wildlife in Ontario: Sign below to show your support for animals like Rosie!
Rosie a 5-week old baby raccoon whose mother was killed, was left to die because of government regulations. Thousands of helpless young wild animals like Rosie, face a cruel and unnecessary death every spring because of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources regulations that outlaw responsible and humane help for wildlife, forcing many wildlife rehabilitators out of operation. The Ministry’s heartless advice to people finding an orphan is to “leave the animal there and let nature takes its course.” (Via Second Chance Wildlife Sanctuary.)

Greenpeace: Join the world in telling Brazil “No” to Amazon deforestation!
The Brazilian Congress, influenced by the agribusiness sector, seeks to change the Forest Code in Brazil to open more of the Amazon rainforest to be cleared. Not only will this destroy forested areas in the Amazon no longer protected by the Forest Code but the clearing and burning of these lands will release millions of tons of greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere—making the impacts of climate change worse.

Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC): Tell Governor Schwarzenegger to support strong rules to clean up diesel truck pollution
On December 11th and 12th, the California Air Resources Board will vote on two important measures to reduce pollution from heavy-duty trucks throughout the state. Tell Governor Schwarzenegger not to let the gloomy economic outlook doom these critical, cost-effective measures.

Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC): Tell the EPA to act now to help stop global warming
The EPA is requesting public comments on whether carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping pollutants are endangering our health and our climate. Tell the EPA global warming pollution is dangerous and demand that the agency set tough new standards to reduce emissions from cars, trucks and power plants.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Urge Prosecutor to File Charges Against Those Responsible for Animal Suffering at Cruel ‘Shelter’
Kim Kappler, the owner and operator of the now defunct All Creatures Great & Small (ACGS), was arrested in July 2008 after 44 animals were reportedly found packed into a filthy residence in Flat Rock, North Carolina. The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office took all the animals into protective custody and states that its recent investigation “revealed that conditions had worsened” since last January, when 17 animals had to be seized, and that “[m]any of the animals appeared to be in poor medical condition and four required immediate veterinary treatment.”

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Urge the USDA to Pursue Criminal Charges and Permanent License Revocation
On November 8, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) took custody of an emaciated elephant named Ned, who had been in the care of Florida-based circus trainer Lance Ramos (aka Lancelot Kollmann). Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus currently leases 10 of its 30 tigers from Kollmann. While we are certain that many of the exhibitors from whom Ringling leases animal acts have their own baggage of animal abuse and neglect, Kollmann’s abysmal record makes him one of the worst. This recent case of Kollmann’s neglect is egregious and unacceptable, and we need your help to convince Ringling to do away with its tiger acts.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): Stop the Bloody Whale Slaughter on the Faroe Islands
On a group of islands just north of Europe, the traditional bloody whale and dolphin slaughter takes place every year. The Faroe Islands are a part of Denmark, where whaling is banned, but they have laws that are independent of Denmark’s laws, so they are allowed to continue with this mass execution. Year after year, thousands of pilot whales, beaked whales and dolphins are chased into the bay by boats, where they are slaughtered.

Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM): Help End the Use of Animals in Military Medical Training – Sign the Pledge!
You can help us stop the pain and suffering of thousands of animals each year. Sign the pledge below so we can tell the Department of Defense just how many PCRM supporters oppose their use of animals in military training. More than 7,000 monkeys, pigs, and goats have already suffered and died, but with your help we will work with the DoD to implement better and cruelty-free training methods. With all PCRM supporters working together, we have a real chance at making a change and saving animal lives!

The Sierra Club: Support the No Child Left Inside Act
As we start the holiday season, one of the best gifts we can give our children is a chance to experience the outdoors. Getting outside and engaging in environmental lessons at an early age sets kids up for a lifetime of involvement in outdoor activities and improves their academic, behavioral and physical performance. Tell Congress to support the No Child Left Inside Act so that today’s youth can learn about the environment and tomorrow’s workers are prepared to enter the green job market.

The Sierra Club: Save Virginia’s Coasts
The Minerals Management Service (MMS) is considering opening up 2.9 million acres off Virginia’s coast for oil and gas drilling. While drilling only 50 miles from shore won’t solve our energy problems, it will endanger some of our country’s most fragile ecosystems and robust coastal economies. The industry is already sitting on 68 million acres of unused leases; there is no reason to open up more of our valuable coastline.

Contests

Care2: A New Year of Hope for Animals.
By popular demand, it’s back and better than ever! Care2 is proud to announce our second America’s Favorite Animal Shelter contest: “A New Year of Hope for Animals.” As the economic crisis worsens and pet abandonment rates grow, Care2 and Adopt-a-Pet.com are raising the stakes; Care2 will award $25,000 to 29 local animal rescue groups and shelters across the US and Canada. The top 20 vote-getting groups will win prizes, giving a greater number of deserving groups a chance to win, and every week a randomly-selected group will win a much-needed $500 prize. Important note: Now, animal rescues and shelters in the U.S. AND Canada are eligible to win, including groups that help birds, rabbits, horses, and animals other than cats and dogs.
