Campaign for America’s Wilderness: Support Wilderness Agenda for 111th Congress
With the election a month passed, your new and re-elected members of Congress are turning attention to opportunities for improving our nation in the 111th Congress. As they ponder their legislative agendas, we should remind members of Congress that wilderness is a value we all share. Newly-elected members have not yet been sworn in and are not easily contacted, but now is a good time to reach out to your re-elected representatives and senators to tell them you support a strong wilderness agenda!
Coalition to Abolish the AETA: 10 things you can do to abolish the AETA
Join us as the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) and a network of grassroots groups launch the Coalition to Abolish the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA) – a coalition created to put an end to an unconstitutional law passed by Congress that is being used to repress dissent in the animal and environmental protection movements and threatens the civil liberties of all of us.
Ecological Internet / Climate Ark: Climate Talks Falter as Italy and Poland Play Politics with Global Climate’s Future
Some 11,000 climate delegates are meeting in Poland’s western city of Poznan, seeking agreement upon new post-Kyoto climate goals, to be finalized in Copenhagen by the end of next year. Ministers will consider proposals for cutting rich-world emissions to between 25 to 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2020, and for compensating tropical countries that conserve carbon-capturing rainforests. But with a worldwide economic crisis and the European Union’s climate policy in disarray, chances are small for quick agreement that reduces emissions.
In Defense of Animals (IDA): Contact President-elect Obama’s Transition Team And Urge Appointment Of Congressman Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) As Secretary of Interior
Please help us assure our country has a Secretary of Interior who really cares about the public lands, wild horses, burros, and all the other animals who share our beautiful country. Rep. Raul M Grijalva (D-AZ) may be emerging as the top contender for the post, according to Politico.com, and we think he’d make a fine pick.
Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS): Good, Green Jobs: Helping the Economy AND the Environment
Investing in energy efficiency and renewable energy can create green jobs, build the economy, and reduce global warming pollution. The Union of Concerned Scientists is using a new web feature, Faces of Renewable Energy, to spotlight the kind of good, green jobs that clean energy industries are already creating in every region of the country. As Congress assembles an economic stimulus bill, please urge them to renew our economy and put the breaks on global warming by creating more green jobs like these.

United Poultry Concerns (UPC): United Poultry Concerns Campaign to Save Canandaigua Chickens Succeeds!
Following a year-long campaign to persuade Canandaigua Academy (a high school in upstate New York) to eliminate a project in which students butchered chickens in an ecology course, United Poultry Concerns learned yesterday that the Education Department has instructed Canandaigua Academy administrators to stop the slaughter project under NYS Education Law, Section 809 – Humane Treatment of Live Vertebrate Animals, which prohibits studies that employ “termination of life.”
