Best Friends: Ellen is going to the dogs…
“Ellen is going to the dogs…and it’s a Pawty! Jump up and get down with Ellen and her special guests – Georgia and her escort, John Garcia of Best Friends Animal Society. You could watch this exciting Ellen episode in your sweats eating ice cream, but that’s no fun! We know you’ll watch this show, but we need everyone to share that feeling like when you’re dancing on the ceilin’! It’s time to Turn on, Tune In and Tivo! Here’s how to catch the spirit and mix it around, with your very own Ellen House Party.”
National Organization of Women (NOW): Help NOW set a Feminist Agenda for the New Administration
“Check out the nine priority items developed by NOW for our 2009 Action Agenda (more detailed information is available by clicking on each one). Then take a moment to let us know what you think by rating the importance of each item on a scale of 1 (most critical) to 5 (least critical). We’ve left the tenth spot open for you to add your own agenda item. [Please include an animal-related agenda item under "other." - Kelly] We’ll post a report on the results on Inauguration Day, so be sure to check back!”
Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (SUWA): Tell Congress to Protest Damaging Plans for Utah Wilderness
“Please ask your representative to take part in asking President-Elect Obama to protect Utah’s redrock wilderness! As many of you have already heard, on Election Day the Utah Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced a December 2008 oil and gas lease sale that put tens of thousands of wilderness-quality public lands in Utah on the auction block. Although the BLM has recently announced a deferral for a portion of the lease parcels, almost 60,000 acres of land proposed as wilderness in America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act remain open to leasing on December 19. Additionally, the deferral of some of the disputed areas in the original lease sale proposal does not solve the greater problem of the six Resource Management Plans (RMPs) the Utah BLM finalized late this fall that opened up millions of acres of proposed wilderness to oil and gas development, and off-road vehicle use.”
United Farm Workers (UFW): Ask President-Elect Obama not to let the outgoing Bush Admin Steal Farm Worker Protections
“The Bush Administration just released midnight regulation changes that make it easier for growers to slash the pay of domestic farm workers and hire imported foreign laborers instead of U.S. field workers. They will weaken government protections in an industry known for violating the minimum wage, housing requirements and other rules. The changes in H-2A regulations were revealed on the DOL website late Monday evening, but have not been formally published in the Federal Register.”
