Action Alerts

American Rivers: Applaud PacifiCorp on their Decision to Remove Four Klamath River Dams
“After years of negotiations with American Rivers, PacifiCorp has announced that it will remove four dams on the Klamath to restore imperiled salmon and steelhead runs. Removal of the dams is part of a broader agreement to restore the river and revive the basin’s fishing, farming, and tribal communities. When these dams come down it will be the biggest dam removal and river restoration effort the world has ever seen. Please thank PacifiCorp for their decision to remove the four Klamath River dams.”

Center for Biological Diversity: You Can Help Save the Endangered Species Act
“Last week, minutes after Bush moved to cripple the Endangered Species Act through new rules that would drive species extinct, the Center for Biological Diversity filed suit in San Francisco federal court to strike down the regulations. Along with our allies, we asked the court to protect endangered plants and animals by nullifying Bush’s policies as quickly as possible. Please take a minute to oppose these lethal rules by sending a letter to your members of Congress now.”

Campaign Updates

Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) / Wayne Pacelle: A Look Ahead: Obama’s Ag and Interior Chiefs
“Today, in his regular blog “Animals & Politics,” my colleague Michael Markarian posted a blog well worth reading about today’s announcement by President-elect Barack Obama on his latest cabinet selections: former Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack for Agriculture Secretary and current U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar from Colorado for Interior Secretary. I join in Mike’s congratulations to both men on their selections, and say that we very much look forward to working with them.”

I’ve tried my best to identify and name any speciesism, sexism, racism, classism, homophobia, sizeism, etc. which may appear in the resources below; if, however, I’ve overlooked something, please leave a note in the comments. It’s not my desire to fight one form of oppression by engaging in another.
