Color of Change: Demand justice in the killing of Oscar Grant
“The police officer who killed Oscar Grant on New Year’s Eve has finally been arrested and charged with murder. Even the District Attorney admitted it was only because of massive public pressure that he moved when he did, pressure that included more than 20,000 of you speaking up. Now, more than ever, we need to keep the pressure on.”
DawnWatch: Superb Audubon article on meat and global warming 1/15/09
“The current issue of Audubon magazine includes a terrific and accidentally animal friendly column about the impact of diet on the environment. Why do I write accidentally animal friendly? While there is a common assumption that environmentalists are concerned with animal suffering, the assumption is too often false. The Audubon Society is the perfect case in point.”
Farm Sanctuary: Do you want your Army to maim goats and pigs?
“Farm Sanctuary has recently learned that the US Army plans to stab, shoot, and break the legs of pigs and goats this week as part of a training program at Fort Dix. The idea is to create combat injuries so that medics-in-training can fix them. Instead, it is an exercise in cruelty. [...] The training starts today and runs through Friday, so there is no time to waste. Please send a letter to Colonel Thaxton, the Installation Commander at Fort Dix immediately. You can send a letter right from the Farm Sanctuary website.”
National Women’s Law Center (NWLC): Protect Women’s Health: Reject the Harmful HHS Rule
“The Bush Administration has done the unconscionable. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has recklessly and callously finalized a regulation that undermines patients’ access to vital health care services and information — putting women’s health and lives at serious risk. Please tell President-Elect Obama to reject this harmful rule immediately upon assuming office.”
Oceana: Protect the Arctic from Industrial Fishing
“As you know, Arctic habitats are gravely threatened by climate change. And due to sea ice loss, new waters are opening for potential passage by ships. But we mustn’t allow further degradation of the Arctic by industrial fishing. Now is our moment:The North Pacific Fishery Management Council is currently accepting public comments on a plan to close the U.S. Arctic to industrial fishing. Please write in today to prevent the industrialization of one of the world’s most vital regions.”
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA): URGENT: Ask Lowe’s Store in Lewes, Del., to Stop Using Glue Traps!
“PETA’s Cruelty Caseworkers have received many calls over the past few weeks regarding the Lewes, Delaware Lowe’s store (#685). Our callers report that glue traps are currently being used to catch and kill unwanted animals, mice and/or birds, in their facility. We’re told that mice have been found struggling in the sticky mess, and that they are thrown away while fully conscious. Customers state that the garden/seasonal departments often smell like death due to the bodies rotting in the trash. We promptly contacted Lowe’s management in hopes of dialoguing with them about this issue so that they would consider pulling these extremely cruel devices, but we got the runaround.”
PETA India: No More Blood on the Tracks: Urge Ministry to Change Trains for Tuskers
“On 20 April, a speeding train hit an adult elephant as she was crossing the tracks in Assam’s Dhansiri reserve forest. Thrown off a ridge into a mud pit 30 feet below, the severely injured elephant cried out in agony for four days before forest department officials were dispatched in an attempt to rescue her. [...] You can help these magnificent animals: ask the Ministry of Railways to stop the needless killing of elephants on railway tracks. Urge the Minister to stop running trains through elephant territories.”
The Sierra Club: Help Rescind Bush’s Midnight Rulings
“Before leaving office, President Bush gave a number of last minute presents to his friends in the oil, mining and timber industries. In addition – just five days before leaving office – the Administration removed the Gray Wolf from the Endangered Species List in the northern Rockies and Midwest . Urge President-elect Obama to rescind this and the Bush Administration’s other last minute anti-environmental rulings. We need your support right now to help make sure these rulings are never implemented.”
Sierra Club BC: Sign this petition asking the BC government to protect our threatened Flathead Valley
“Nestled into BC’s southeast corner is a wilderness area of global significance called the Flathead Valley. Sometimes compared with Africa’s Serengeti for its richness of species, the Flathead’s rare convergence of wildlife and stunning vistas are under threat from mountain-top removal coal mining and other industrial development. It is time for British Columbians to do our part and place the missing jewel on what National Geographic Magazine calls the “Crown of the Continent” – by agreeing to permanent protection for our Flathead Valley and safeguarding it from destructive coal mining in adjacent areas.”
Vegan Soapbox: California Takes Democracy More Seriously
“California has a new website for The Senate Committee on Food and Agriculture: www.californiasafefood.com. [...] So go ahead, tell ‘em what you think. You can vote in the poll on the first page, which by the way, is currently showing that consumers are leaning towards becoming more animal-friendly.”

About
The easyVegan Link Sanctuary is a near-daily roundup of animal and environmental advocacy action alerts, campaign updates, carnivals, contests, newsletters, petitions, upcoming events and miscellaneous resources.
While my primary focus is non-human animals and the environment in which they live, I will cover human rights issues as well, especially as they relate to animal and environmental welfare. (For example, while reproductive rights is typically seen as a feminist or women’s issue, the growing global human population does have environmental consequences. In this vein, access to family planning resources has a tangible impact on the environment – an environment we share with non-human animals.)
This link roundup is meant as a jumping-off point for you, the reader, to take further action and learn more about the issues presented here. I link, you decide!
If you have a link you’d like included, please drop me a line at easyvegan [at] gmail.com – or leave it in the comments! Feedback is also appreciated, particularly as it relates to the links included below. I’ve tried my best to identify and name any speciesism, sexism, racism, classism, homophobia, sizeism, etc. which may appear in the resources below; if, however, I’ve overlooked something, please leave a note in the comments. It’s not my desire to fight one form of oppression by engaging in another.
If you’d like to get on the above organizations’ e-mail lists, I’ve compiled a full list of all my resources on the Get Active! page.
