Boca Egg Facts .com: Act Now to Help End Animal Cruelty: Urge BOCA® to Stop Using Eggs!
“Compassion Over Killing is teaming up with Mercy For Animals and the Animal Protection & Rescue League as well as compassionate people everywhere to ask BOCA® to stop using eggs in its product line. [...] BOCA® has long been a leader in supplying delicious vegetarian foods to a growing market. Unfortunately, while its competitors Morningstar Farms, Lightlife Foods, Tofurky, Gardenburger, and Garden Protein have either reduced the amount of eggs they use or simply don’t use any eggs at all, BOCA® hasn’t yet moved on this important issue of animal cruelty.”
Cure CVS: Tell CVS: Have a Heart, Unlock the Condoms
“This Valentine’s Day, in CVS stores across the country, condoms are locked behind glass cases. Public health advocates criticize this practice, saying it creates a barrier which could decrease condom use. Even more worrisome than CVS’s practice of locking condoms is where those locked cases are located: locked condoms have been found disproportionately in minority areas. Send a Valentine to CVS and tell the company to change this unfair, discriminatory practice.”
Deep Roots: Help Animals in Indiana – HB 1468
“Indiana House Bill 1468 passed through committee yesterday and is entering a vote in the House of Representatives in the next week. It is important that everyone contact their representative to let them know that you support HB 1468 because it will strengthen what is now a very weak animal cruelty code and will help put a stop to puppy mills in the state.”
Earthjustice: Stop Oil and Gas Leases of the “Polar Bear Seas”
A Bush-era landmine is ticking away in the “Polar Bear Seas”—last haven of America’s threatened polar bears—and we urgently need you to help defuse it. Our government is about to lease more than 73 million acres of these vulnerable Arctic waters for the kind of oil and gas development that destroys animal habitat and disrupts Native Alaskan communities. Amid cries of “Drill, baby, drill,” this leasing scheme was rushed through late last year with almost no consideration of its devastating potential impacts. Fortunately, President Obama is on to this plan and wants to know what you think of it. So let’s tell him … now … before things spin out of our control.”
Indict Bush Now .org: Sign the IndictBushNow Referendum
“I want the Obama administration to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate former President George W. Bush, Vice President Richard B. Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld, and Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for high crimes and misdemeanors, and to have the case prosecuted accordingly.”
Pacific Environment: Help Reverse the Bush Administration’s Rush to Drill the Arctic!
“On his way out of Washington, former President Bush proposed a plan that would not only give away virtually the entire Arctic Ocean to Big Oil—threatening traditional Alaska Native communities and Arctic wildlife—but would also commit the U.S. to continuing to be a lead cause of global climate change. We, however, have an opportunity to stop these plans. Please urge Ken Salazar, the new Secretary of Interior, and the Minerals Management Service to stop Arctic oil and gas projects and keep the new Administration’s commitment to reversing climate change, protecting important ecological areas, and respecting the rights of indigenous cultures.”
Population Connection: Tell President Obama–No Money for Abstinence Only
“In a few weeks, President Obama will unveil his proposed budget for FY 2010, and we need your help to make sure that it eliminates funding for Bush-era abstinence-only programs. As you know, these ridiculous programs received more than $1 billion in funding over the last 10 years, despite mountains of evidence that they don’t work and may even be harmful. They rely on medical misinformation and outright lies, promote outmoded gender stereotypes, and ignore the very existence of gay and lesbian teens. Current research also suggests that students subjected to this type of abstinence-only approach are no less likely to have sex than other teens, but are less likely to use contraception when they do become sexually active.”
Rainforest Action Network (RAN): Tell Congress to Support the Capitol Climate Action!
“Help support the thousands of people who will gather and put themselves at risk at the largest mass civil disobedience for the climate in U.S. history — the Capitol Climate Action on March 2 in Washington, D.C. Ask your Congressperson to publicly support the action – and their constituents who have decided to take a stand for the climate and a clean energy future.”
United Farm Workers (UFW): Agricultural company wreaks havoc. Tell new EPA chief to protect us from pesticide abusers.
“According to news reports, New Jersey’s state Department of Environmental Protection cited Ag-Mart for hundreds of violations, claiming Ag-Mart denied state investigators access to facilities, applied pesticides to tomatoes more frequently than permitted and on 17 occasions harvested and shipped pesticide-sprayed tomatoes before they were safe for public consumption.”
World Wildlife Fund (WWF): Protect wildlife in Malaysia
“Wildlife in Malaysia is currently protected by the Protection of Wild Life Act 1972, a 37-year old law, which is severely outdated and riddled with loopholes. As a result many species continue to be poached and illegally traded at alarming rates, whilst wildlife offenders often escape arrest and prosecution. Please sign our petition and urge the Malaysian government to strengthen the wildlife law.”
Campaign Updates
Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF): Animal Welfare Advocates Settle Online Video Battle With Cowboy Group; Meritless Copyright Claims Won’t Interfere With YouTube Rodeo Critiques
“The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) represents the group Showing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK), a non-profit organization that videotapes and photographs rodeos in order to expose animal abuse, injuries, and deaths. SHARK posted dozens of these critical videos to YouTube throughout 2006 and 2007. When the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) falsely claimed that 13 of the videos infringed PRCA copyrights, YouTube disabled SHARK’s entire account. SHARK sued the PRCA for misrepresentation, noting that, among other things, the videos could not have infringed any PRCA copyright because the rodeos themselves weren’t copyrightable.”
Humane Society of the United States (HSUS): Breaking news: Grey seals spared from slaughter!
“The Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the government of Nova Scotia announced last week that they were authorizing another grey seal kill. But yesterday, seal processing plants told seal hunters that they would not buy the skins of the baby grey seals, and the sealers stayed home.”

Animal Aid: End Primate Experiments – Day of Action, Saturday, February 28, 2009
“After 20 years, the EU law that governs animal testing across Europe and the UK is being revised. European Directive 86/609 EEC, which applies to animals used for experimental and other scientific purposes, is the legal template on which all EU member states base their national laws. In the UK, the relevant law is the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986.Sadly, this Directive does not include an independent enquiry into the scientific reliability of animal experiments, nor does it offer a total ban – something to which Animal Aid is committed unequivocally.”
Capitol Climate Action: March 2, 2009 in Washington, D.C.
“On March 2, join thousands of people in a multi-generational act of civil disobedience at the Capitol Power Plant — a plant that powers Congress with dirty energy and symbolizes a past that cannot be our future. Let’s use this as a rallying cry for a clean energy economy that will protect the health of our families, our climate, and our future.”
Earth Hour 2009 – March 28, 2009
“Mark your calendar and plan to join millions of people around the world in turning off the lights at 8:30 p.m., March 28, 2009, for one hour—Earth Hour—to raise awareness and take action to fight climate change. U.S. activists: Turn your action into something even bigger! Push your federal and state elected officials to shut off their lights and to take strong action to fight climate change.”

About
The easyVegan Link Sanctuary is a near-daily roundup of animal and environmental advocacy action alerts, campaign updates, carnivals, contests, newsletters, petitions, upcoming events and miscellaneous resources.
While my primary focus is non-human animals and the environment in which they live, I will cover human rights issues as well, especially as they relate to animal and environmental welfare. (For example, while reproductive rights is typically seen as a feminist or women’s issue, the growing global human population does have environmental consequences. In this vein, access to family planning resources has a tangible impact on the environment – an environment we share with non-human animals.)
This link roundup is meant as a jumping-off point for you, the reader, to take further action and learn more about the issues presented here. I link, you decide!
If you have a link you’d like included, please drop me a line at easyvegan [at] gmail.com – or leave it in the comments! Feedback is also appreciated, particularly as it relates to the links included above. I’ve tried my best to identify and name any speciesism, sexism, racism, classism, homophobia, sizeism, etc. which may appear in the resources above; if, however, I’ve overlooked something, please leave a note in the comments. It’s not my desire to fight one form of oppression by engaging in another.
If you’d like to get on the above organizations’ e-mail lists, I’ve compiled a full list of all my resources on the Get Active! page.
