Defenders of Wildlife: Kids Color to Save Wolves
“I often receive clever drawings and colored pictures from animal-loving children urging me to do everything I can to protect America’s wildlife. These young activists are passionate about saving the lives of imperiled animals… and they’ve led us to launch Kids Care, a brand-new initiative to give children a way to help stop Sarah Palin’s cruel aerial wolf killing in Alaska. We’ve already received illustrated messages from kids all over the country urging Palin to end her brutal wolf killing program. Please visit EyeOnPalin.org and get your children involved.”
Dogs Deserve Better (DDB): Animal Abuser Sought in Freeman Spur Vicinity; Concerned citizens seek assistance in finding violent offender to make the community safer for all
“A reward of $1000 is being offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the death of a local dog by animal cruelty. On the morning of February 15, 2009, at 1:45am, a concerned citizen found a Chow mix puppy, about 5 months old, on the side of Freeman Spur Blacktop, in the Freeman Spur vicinity including West Frankfort and Herrin, Williamson County, Illinois. The dog was alive but had been beaten so severely that she was unable to be saved. Upon receiving treatment from a Veterinarian it was determined that the dog had been blinded, her back leg was shattered in several places, front leg had been broken previously and was infected, and her neck was so infested with maggots from lacerations due to a life time chaining.”

International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW): End the Seal Hunt: Pass the Harb Seal Bill!
“For the first time in history, a Canadian politician is proposing a law to end the suffering of baby seals. Senator Harb consulted with IFAW on this critical legislation and now he has asked us to help flood Canadian Embassies with messages of support. Please help us reach 200,000 emails and letters in the next few weeks: one for every seal killed this year. This is our chance to end the hunt forever. Please email Canada’s Ambassador urging support of the “Harb” Seal Bill to end the hunt.”
PETA: Tell Macy’s to Lay Off the Animals, Not the Workers
“Department store Macy’s, which sells a lot of fur, has announced 7,000 layoffs. Tell Macy’s to lay off the animals, not the workers! The fur cuffs, collars, and coats at Macy’s come from animals who spend their short, miserable lives in cramped, filthy cages until they are slaughtered, often while they are fully conscious, or are trapped and beaten to death in the wild. Fur farmers and trappers use the cheapest and cruelest killing methods available, including suffocation, electrocution, gassing, bludgeoning, drowning, and poisoning. Many animals are still alive and able to feel pain as workers begin to rip the skin off their bodies. Tell Macy’s CEO Terry Lundgren that modern, successful businesses don’t sell fur and that as long as Macy’s supports the violent, bloody fur industry, his books are bound to be in the red.”
PETA: URGENT: Call on Palm Beach County Schools to Halt Their Alleged Use of Cruel Glue Traps!
“Horrified Palm Beach County residents recently contacted PETA upon learning of the alleged use of glue traps to catch and kill mice in the schools’ buildings and campuses. PETA contacted school officials, apprising them of the inherent and extreme cruelty of these devices and asking that they remove the traps immediately and instead explore humane pest-control alternatives. Officials suggested that they would look into the matter, but PETA has received no indication that the traps have been removed yet. Our follow-up calls are not being returned.”
Planned Parenthood: STOP anti-choice efforts to defund Planned Parenthood
“Anti-choice Sen. David Vitter has introduced an amendment that would strip federal Title X family planning funding for Planned Parenthood from the Appropriations bill. With so many people turning to Planned Parenthood for basic health care during this economic crisis, Sen. Vitter’s attack could not have happened at a worse time.”
Campaign Updates
Capitol Climate Action: Victory at the largest mass civil disobedience for the climate in U.S. history!
“Yesterday thousands of people came together to offer an unprecedented example of mass protest and civil disobedience for the climate. More than 2500 activists, many willing to risk arrest, successfully blockaded all five entrances to the Capitol Power Plant for more than four hours. As impressive as that is, this action wasn’t just about this one coal-fired powerplant. The scale and the commitment of the participants was the biggest example yet of the kind of public support necessary to solve the climate crisis.”

Animal Aid: Horse Racing Awareness Week, Sunday, March 29 through Saturday, April 4, 2009
“Horse Racing Awareness Week takes place in the seven days leading up to the Grand National meeting in Aintree – a notoriously hazardous three-day event that has killed 35 horses over the last decade. Runners face unique problems in the flagship race, including the proximity of a large, noisy crowd; the number of animals taking part; and the nature of the fences. Most years there are fatalities. Animal Aid is calling for this punishing, brutal event to be banned. Please read on to find out how you can help raise awareness and aid our campaign.”
American Humane Association (AHA): Every Day Is Tag Day – Saturday, April 4, 2009
“The American Humane Association celebrates every day as Tag Day to encourage all pet owners to tag or microchip their companion animals. Pet care is more than providing food, water and shelter. Pet care also includes tagging your pet. According to the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy, about 1 million dogs and half a million cats are taken into U.S. animal shelters as strays each year. Sadly, only 15 percent of those dogs and 2 percent of those cats are reunited with their owners.”

About
The easyVegan Link Sanctuary is a near-daily roundup of animal and environmental advocacy action alerts, campaign updates, carnivals, contests, newsletters, petitions, upcoming events and miscellaneous resources.
While my primary focus is non-human animals and the environment in which they live, I will cover human rights issues as well, especially as they relate to animal and environmental welfare. (For example, while reproductive rights is typically seen as a feminist or women’s issue, the growing global human population does have environmental consequences. In this vein, access to family planning resources has a tangible impact on the environment – an environment we share with non-human animals.)
This link roundup is meant as a jumping-off point for you, the reader, to take further action and learn more about the issues presented here. I link, you decide!
If you have a link you’d like included, please drop me a line at easyvegan [at] gmail.com – or leave it in the comments! Feedback is also appreciated, particularly as it relates to the links included above. I’ve tried my best to identify and name any speciesism, sexism, racism, classism, homophobia, sizeism, etc. which may appear in the resources above; if, however, I’ve overlooked something, please leave a note in the comments. It’s not my desire to fight one form of oppression by engaging in another.
If you’d like to get on the above organizations’ e-mail lists, I’ve compiled a full list of all my resources on the Get Active! page.
