Hi Michelle! Over at Animal Rights & AntiOppression, Brandon also pointed to SODOPRECA's statement, which readers can find here. It's a little difficult to understand - since unlike the rest of the site, it's in broken English - but it sounds like ARCH is asking SODOPRECA to sign a contract in order to receive funds; the contract 1) somehow limits its ability to accept donations/help from "outside" groups and 2) does not provide for adequate security. (?) If true, this is cause for concern (are contracts standard operating procedure in disaster relief efforts?), but I wish SODOPRECA would go into greater detail in its statement. It's all rather confusing.

Several organizations are asking for donations and saying they are part of ARCH. Supposedly they are all in this coalition with the an organization in the dominion republic SODOPRECA. The funny thing is SODOPRECA is stating that they are not part of ARCH and has the following on there website:

re: ARCH, it's my understanding that a few individual member groups claim (on their websites, in emails) to be working in conjunction with SODOPRECA, without actually stating that SODOPRECA is part of ARCH. Again, though, SODOPRECA's statement concerns me, because it suggests that ARCH is not working with SODOPRECA so much as trying to assimilate (control?) it.

If I have a chance later today or tomorrow, I'll try contacting the ARCH member orgs to see if I can get an explanation. In the meantime, I recommend donating to SODOPRECA directly, or to one of the human-based aid orgs such as Food for Life Global - seeing as those groups are actually being allowed into Haiti.

I'm pretty confused. Several organizations are asking for donations and saying they are part of ARCH. Supposedly they are all in this coalition with the an organization in the dominion republic SODOPRECA. The funny thing is SODOPRECA is stating that they are not part of ARCH and has the following on there website:

"SODOPRECA, feels that the contract that ARCH is offering to sodopreca does not warranty the physical integrity of our team, because do not allocate funds for security measures. The contract neither fulfils the expectation, financially speaking, for such endeavour.Further more, Sodopreca believes that there is enough potential donors to raise the necessary funding to achieve this mission. Also we do not understand why we should reject help from other groups willing to help the animals in Haiti, when that is our main objective. Sodopreca believes that no offer to help the animals in Haiti should be rejected. In the case of human victim everyone is allow to help and no help is been rejected; why should we limit the efforts of our animal’s caring people and groups. Sodopreca will receive financial assistant and other resources from any person or organization willing to help us, we alone do not have the resources to achieve the mission but all the small groups and people together for sure can accomplish this mission. An special fund it is been created for this purpose."

You have no idea the misuse of funds that goes on at HSUS in the Emergency Services Department! They used to be called Disaster Services, but changed the name. If you want your money to go for paying for suites in hotels for the Director of Emergency Services or renting a Hummer, because that is all he will drive now.....feel free. They are implying they have people on the ground now and they do not. It's all about the money and getting video or pictures to raise more money. I know HSUS from the inside and they will NEVER get another dime. Misuse and waste is rampant in that department in particular. Spend you money wisely and don't send it to HSUS.
