(In my very best Jerry Seinfeld voice) LEMMY!

2015-09-13 - Going to the Drive-in - 0003 [flickr]

Now that the drive-in is only open on weekends, Sunday night is our official Movie Night ™. Unless it rains, in which case Friday or Saturday night will suffice. This weekend the I-70 was doing a retro movie night ($10 per carload!), so we saw Top Gun and Jaws. Aaaand now I can’t get “Danger Zone” out of my head. On a happier note, there’s way more homoerotic stuff in that movie than I recall from my childhood viewings.

Jayne woke from her nap only to find a camera shoved in her face. Needless to say, she was not amused.

2015-09-15 - Lemmy - 0001 [flickr]

Lemmy, acting weirdly cute. Probably he’s just messing with our heads. If I don’t check in this time next week, it means he murdered us in our sleep, okay? Call the ASPCA, maybe it won’t be too late for the dogs!

2015-09-15 - Walking at Smithville Lake - 0082 [flickr]

After dinner we took an eclectic A Team/B Team Mix o’ dogs (Peedee, Rennie, and Finnick) to the lake. The evenings are starting to cool off much more quickly, so it’s about a million times more pleasant than just a few weeks ago. No more dips in the lake, but on the positive side, they’re able to keep up a steady pace and go much longer than before. It’s always a bummer when you spend more time driving than you do walking, you know?

Hey, it’s not like he’s the first animal to pee on these logs. Prolly not the last, either. (That sign’s been up the whole time we’ve been going to the lake – at least five years.)

2015-09-16 - Outside with the Dogs - 0043 [flickr]

Took a few choice portraits of Finnick while we were sunbathing outside before dinner. This one’s my fave by far!

2015-09-16 - Peedee in Pink - 0020 [flickr]

While dinner was cooking, Peedee and I played dress-up. I call this the “Peedee in Pink” series. He kinda looks like a princess bride, no? Either that or some kind of deranged clown or wizard.

(Look close and you can see a crumb from the last treat still sticking to his tongue!)

2015-09-16 - Sleeping in the Sunroom - 0025 [flickr]

It got a little steamy again, so Shane slept in the tent with Finnick while the rest of the dogs and I slept in the sunroom. Nobody seemed to mind the missing twin mattress. (Yup, that was in the tent with Shane. Talk about glamping.)

2015-09-17 - Good Morning - 0001 [flickr]

Morning, sleepyheads. (They let me snooze until way after sunup.)

Mags, starting the day with a roar.

2015-09-19 - Lemmy Hates Dogs - 0010 [flickr]

Lemmy says, “Death to ALL dogs, even the stuffed ones!”

2015-09-19 - Walking at Bonebender - 0015 [flickr]

After lunch we took the A Team to the Camp Branch end of Bonebender. We were curious to see if we could walk into the campgrounds once it was closed but – SURPRISE! – there were tons o’ campers there! Well, maybe not tons, but more than zero. Shane and I both recall seeing a notice that the campgrounds would be closing after Labor Day last time we were there, so. That’s weird.

And then this happened.

I feel like I should insert a proper Peedee update here, but I just don’t have the heart. He’s still doing okay, at least as far as we can tell – though it’s been two months since his last x-ray, so we’ve no idea what’s going on in that silly little chest of his. What we do know is that now we’re back in the predicted final act … which is my clumsy way of saying that two months ago, the oncologist gave him two to three months to live. Two months after giving him two to three months to live. So the reprieve is maybe over, at least as far as we know, but even that’s a guess. I’m trying not to freak out, but I’d be lying if I said that every cough and gurgle didn’t threaten to send me into a tailspin.

But he’s still here, still in good health (meaning he’s asymptomatic) and good spirits, and that’s what counts. Anything past August was gravy anyway. Or so I keep telling myself.

Kelly Killjoy, out.
