Justice for Zoe - Deranged GA. Man Shoots Dog 12 Times With A Silencer!

In the central Georgia town of Byron, a man has been charged with felony cruelty to animals. Police say he shot a neighbor’s 8-month-old puppy 14 times. (Petition Authors interjection: A silencer was used for 12 of those shots, which is why no one heard anything, but the last 2 deadly shots were without the silencer). [Read more…]

Stop KFC Cruelty!

This petition is for the people who want to stop the cruelty done at KFC. KFC is one of the most cruelest buisnesses out there, killing baby chicks when barely 2 months old, de-beaking chickens with out an anesthetic, dipping them in scalding water for de-feathering, and finally slitting their throats after pain and torture. Don’t relax laws on hunting

Members of the National Trust have voted to relax their rules on hunting on Exmoor. If the vote is adopted as trust policy, hunts will be able to follow sick or injured deer on to their land to kill the animal. Trust members voted to allow hunting of stags at the Holnicote Estate, which forms much of Exmoor. This is not on. Why should injured and upset deer be allowed to be tracked down and torn to bits by hounds? [Read more…]

Stop Prairie Dog Poisonings!

The Forest Service wants to make it easier to poison and kill prairie dogs on the American plains — risking creatures like burrowing owls, hawks, swift fox, the critically endangered black-footed ferret and the complex balance of life on the American Prairie. Widespread poisoning could kill tens of thousands of prairie dogs, which would jeopardize the continued recovery of the critically imperiled black-footed ferret, the most endangered mammal in North America. Stop China from the continuing slaughter of dogs and cats

China has citizens there and people on every continent up in arms over China’s mandate to the residents to turn in their dogs to police no later than March 16th. After that date, if dogs are not turned in they will be taken by police-force. The pets along with every stray are going to be slaughtered to what they believe will eliminate the city’s rabies problem. The saddest part of this story is it has been going on for quite some time. Save the Elephant Habitat in Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve

In the Nilgiris Eastern Ghat Elephant Reserve, part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and proposed Sathyamangalam Wildlife Sanctuary, a railway line would pass through 58 km of dense forest area requiring 30 meters on either side from the centerline of the track all along the length of the proposed railway line in forest area for about 58 km. That includes approach road to track space for collection of ballast and for any emergency recoupment of materials near the track passing through erstwhile Veerappan territories like Talawadi, Gattawadi and bannari. On completion, the railway line would have 277 bridges, 138 curves and 61 tunnels. KEEP DOG MURDER IN JAIL - GIVE HIM THE MAXIMUM SENTENCE

Our loving, young pet Mimi, a very small, chi was murdered by a man named Frank on Tuesday afternoon. Frank took our little dog and slit her throat then threw her over his back fence. Thanks to the excellent, diligent work of the Novato Police Department, Frank was arrested and is in jail with a over $100,000 bail. This man took the life of our family member, a dog that gave nothing but love to all that she met. She made our family laugh everyday with her antics. Her best friend was Ty the big black Great Dane, who is now moping around the house looking for his little friend. When I found my dog with her throat cut, ants crawling on her body, blood coming out of her ears, my belief that every human being has some level of basic kindness, died in that moment. Who is this man, whatever reason he has for committing this act, this is a sick person who does not belong in our society. He should be listed as a predator, just like sex offenders. Is any one safe anymore? GIVE THIS MAN THE MAXIMUM SENTENCE. [Read more…]

Ban on Animal Acts in the Greater Capital Region

Animals used in entertainment are often sentenced to a life of sadness, neglect and abuse. This is especially the case for animals used in various circuses. Exotic animals such as elephants seem to receive the most punishment in order for them to perform demeaning stunts that are anything but natural. As of late there is a stream of former employees reporting the heinous acts that go on behind the scenes of the most popular circuses. The perpetrators of these animal acts have continually been reported to authorities and fined for their brutal practices, but continue to make money from this trade. Please join us by trying to put an end to shows where animals are used in an inhumane manner. We would like to start by banning these shows in New York’s capital district. Eight states including New York have already banned animal acts in specific areas, our hope is to keep the trend going. **Please only sign this petition if you live in one of the following counties: Ulster, Dutchess, Hamilton, Montgomery, Fulton, Greene, Columbia, Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Warren or Washington** [Read more…]

END ‘SCIENTIFIC’ WHALING–NOW!

Article VIII of the International Whaling Commission’s founding treaty, allows IWC participant governments to issue special permits to themselves to conduct ’scientific’ whaling. This provision was not originally intended by the drafters, to allow for large scale lethal research or for the commercial use of ‘byproducts’ [i.e., selling whale meat]. However, several countries have exploited Article VIII to either avoid the IWC’s bans on hunting specific species, or to ‘top up’ their quotas. Because it’s a provision within the treaty, Article VIII prevails over the

Stop the ACT Government and the Defence Force culling more than 3000 kangaroos from defence sites

The Government and Defence say the cull is necessary because of overgrazing and the risk of kangaroos starving. However, ACT Animal Liberation president Mary Hayes said that another cull would burden the ACT with a worldwide reputation for cruelty. She also said there was no evidence kangaroos were likely to starve. “It is a very cruel, violent way to treat animals, on a par to just treating them as if they were weeds to be mown or pulled out,” she said on ABC radio. “This is going to produce an enormous reaction, not only amongst animal welfare groups but amongst the general population who will react very strongly to it.” She added, “It is going to give the ACT a reputation for animal cruelty throughout the whole of Australian, and indeed the rest of the world.” [Read more…]

AKC’s SHAME AND FAILURE TO HELP DOGS

The AKC has a golden opportunity to become involved in the health and welfare of dogs across America. Anti-tethering laws or laws that restrict tethering are far more reaching than you can imagine. First of all, a Class 1 misdemeanor for animal neglect and cruelty is an outdated punishment in the extreme. When an owner’s dog dies from neglect at the end of chain, where its spent its entire life receives a “Class 1 misdemeanor” for animal abuse, its nothing more than a joke. An anti-tethering law which minimizes the amount of time a dog is forced to endure being chained or stuck in a pen will give law enforcement and prosecutors more leverage not in prosecuting animal abusers but in getting an animal out of an abusive situation. End their misery - Free this wolf and donkey in Albania

A wolf and a donkey share a cage in the northwestern town of Patok in Albania, about 40 km (25 miles) from capital the Tirana, May 9, 2007. The donkey was brought into the enclosure to be fed to the wolf, which was caught in the northern Albanian mountains four months ago. The animals have since become attached to each other, cohabitating in the cage for the last 10 days, and attracting curious villagers and local media. These poor animals live in misery, the scared wolf cowers behind his donkey companion. They live in appalling, filthy conditions with little room. [Read more…]

Stop Gassing Animals in Texas

Dogs and cats that are taken to the pound in hopes of finding a new home are more likely to end up being put to death in a gas chamber, a cruel and outdated method of killing. Our shelter uses carbon monoxide poisoning as the primary method of destroying animals. The other more humane killing method, a sodium pentobarbital injection, is reserved for animals too sick, too young, too pregnant, or too injured to be effectively destroyed in the gas chamber. Less than 1% of the humane society shelters in the nation use this cruel and out-dated method and California, Florida, and Tennessee have prohibited its use on companion animals all together. Why then is it the main killing method at the Craven/Pamlico Animal Services Center in Craven County? [Read more…]

Petition to Stop the Gas Chamber at the Stanly County Animal Shelter

This photo shows the strange gas chamber used to kill thousands of unwanted animals at the Stanly County Animal Shelter in Albemarle, North Carolina. Can you imagine watching animals being put into this awful, tilted metal box to die? Please contact the government officials listed below and politely encourage a change to humane euthanasia by injection for the animals that are not adopted from the shelter. As always, please do your part to control overpopulation by spaying and neutering your pets! Save a shelter pet instead of buying from breeders and pet stores. Help stop the suffering today. Petition to STOP the potential pit bull ban in Massachusetts

Pit bulls are living, breathing animals that do NOT deserve to be punished by ignorant humans who dwell in Mass’ major cities and towns. These people choose to take a strong breed and breed them to fight, fight against themselves for profit or for “protection”. They over bred them, many times involving inbreeding and which in turn can naturally have the dog become chemically imbalanced, resulting in aggression. The other half of the time their aggression simply comes from getting beat with sticks, fists or other types of brutality. The torture makes the dog become viscous toward other dogs as well as any human it comes into contact with. [Read more…]

Protect the Grizzly Bear

Under the Endangered Species Act, Yellowstone’s bears have made a dramatic recovery - from just 200 bears in 1975 to roughly 600 today. But now the grizzly bear faces its biggest challenge ever: global warming. One of the bear’s primary food sources, the seed of whitebark pine trees, is disappearing. Scientists report that warmer temperatures are causing an explosion in the Yellowstone pine beetle population, leading to decimation of whitebark pine. In addition, more and more of the grizzly’s range land is being opened to oil and gas development. On May 1, the Bush Administration removed the Yellowstone grizzly from the Endangered Species List. Instead of undoing protections for grizzly bears, we should be guarding them more vigilantly than ever before, and taking decisive action to stop global warming. [Read more…]

Act Now to Save Red Snapper

Without immediate action, red snapper in the Gulf of Mexico face further depletion that jeopardizes the long-term health of this signature fish population. For over two decades Gulf fishery managers, whose responsibility it is to protect and sustain our fish populations, have ignored science and repeatedly set catch levels too high. As a result, the spawning population of Gulf red snapper is down to 3% of its historic abundance. [Read more…]

Tell Bush/Cheney Administration: Stop Offshore Oil Drilling!

Officials in the Bush/Cheney Interior Department intend to allow harmful new drilling in tens of millions of environmentally sensitive acres off the coast of Alaska, including an area closed to drilling after the disastrous Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989. Federal officials have also proposed new drilling leases off the coasts of Florida and Virginia. [Read more…]

Keep Our Water Clean and Protected!

For more than 30 years, the Clean Water Act has provided critical protections for our streams, lakes, wetlands, and other waters that we depend on for clean drinking water, recreation, and fish and wildlife habitat. But now 60 percent of our nation’s waters could be stripped of federal protection. Industry groups are trying to undo long established safeguards for our local waterways but there is a chance to stop them. Ask your representative to support the Clean Water Restoration Act now. Petition against Pit bull ban and Breed Specific laws in Massachusetts

A few representatives from our state of Massachusetts are proposing to ban “pit bulls” and other popular dog breeds. We are petitioning not to ban dogs, but to enforce stricter leash laws and have better records for licensing dogs. Any dog can be taught anything, banning one or more breeds will not help. If passed, it will cause an even larger overflow in our shelters, law-abiding citizens to move out of the Commonwealth, non-law-abiding citizens will continue to train dogs to be vicious; pit bulls, rottweilers, doberman pinchers or otherwise. They now spend their days isolated from their original family and apart from each other. [Read more…]

Protect the Caribbean Coast from Mega-Resorts

Development is putting one of the Caribbean’s last great unprotected areas at risk. Over 40 endemic and threatened species make their homes in this area, but two mega-resorts could destroy this natural and ecologically important region. The Northeast Ecological Corridor (NEC), on the eastern corner of the mainland of Puerto Rico, is home to many tropical habitats and endangered species. The Corridor harbors coral communities, mangrove and coastal pre-Columbian forests, a bioluminescent lagoon and one of the most important nesting sites for the endangered Leatherback seaturtle. The government of Puerto Rico will soon vote on a bill that would designate the NEC a nature reserve. This bill will ensure protection for this extraordinary area once and for all. [Read more…]
