Hi there! I was wondering whether you’re open to custom orders? Specifically, I want to dress two of my dogs as characters from Firefly/Serenity, so I need a brown ringer t-shirt for Jayne (e.g. rpggamer.org/uploaded_images/JayneCobb12.jpg) and a long(er) sleeve floral print t-shirt and mechanic’s jumpsuit for Kaylee (beingruth.com/images/kaylee1.jpg – but with a skirted bottom vs. pants, perhaps similar to this http://www.baxterboo.com/dog/supplies.cfm/green-jean-denim-skull-dress-harness-doggles ). Jayne is a 23-pound Jack Russell terrier mix, and Kaylee is a 16-pound rat terrier mix, so they’re on the small-to-medium side.

Right now I’m emailing a few shops on etsy to get an idea of price and turnaround. I’m pretty flexible as far as the time line goes, but hope to have the outfits done by November. Please convo me if you’re interested and we can discuss the details!

Thanks for reading,

Kelly Garbato

tinypawsdesigns | Aug 29, 2011

Yes I would be interested in doing this. It is quite doable. I would have time to get the fabric, etc. I would need their measurements of course Kelly, but I could do this.

Each outfit will run you about 34.95. If we take care of this now, I should have them to you by the 1st week of October which gives me time for the fabric. It could be sooner, but I am adding time for unforeseen stuff. Since we have time, that gets them to you in plenty of time.

Thanks for your interest. It would be my pleasure to do this. Last year I had to make a rabbit a costume from Alice in wonderland. And it turned out wonderful.

Thanks for the quick reply, Georgina! I’m just waiting to hear back from one more shop, then I’ll be in touch. I did see that rabbit costume, by the way, when I was looking at your feedback. Too cute for words!

Hi Georgina,

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to get back to you sooner; we unexpectedly took in two foster dogs over the weekend and things have been crazy. I’d still like to go ahead with the outfits, and would love to have you make them for me. The price you quoted is reasonable, and your work is lovely!

I guess the next step is for me to measure the dogs; do you have a specific diagram you’d like me to use as a guide? Also, if there are any “special” or nonstandard measurements you need, let me know. (One that I can think of offhand is the length for the sleeves on the Kaylee t-shirt, since they’re 3/4 length sleeves.)

How do you normally proceed with custom-designed outfits? The t-shirts are pretty straightforward, but should I expect a rough sketch or similar of the jumpsuit/dress? Also, how will we choose the fabrics? I know that we won’t be able to find an exact fabric match for Kaylee’s floral tee – plenty of fans before me have tried and failed! and besides, the original is a semi-sheer fabric, which would probably tear easily under a dog’s nails – but maybe something with a similar feel? I tried looking at Jo-Ann Fabrics a few weeks back, but wasn’t sure what type of fabric would work best. A cotton blend, maybe?

btw, here are a few additional pictures of the Kaylee outfit.

I have attached a sizing dog… I need neck, girth, and the lower waist for the skirt band. I need length so that I don’t make everything too long. I will also need the front leg length for the sleeves.

It is the effect you are after, so it does not have to be exact. But we will try to get close.

The rabbit was a challenge. I only had a picture to go by and I blew it up to see the details and watched the movie to see what they looked like and all that. I made it very close. Sleeves were a bit long, but I had her measurements and I made it to those measurements. It was a cute coat out of denim. I embroidered it and everything. I wish I had taken a photo of it myself. I just got it out for her and did not even think of keeping a photo. So I was glad she sent me one.

What it does look like is that the fabric for the skirt and top of the jumpsuit would be a cotton, cotton blend, twill, khaki denim fabric. Go search around fabric.com and see if you see anything you feel would be more fitting. They have many more choices than Joann’s. You can search by color, or anything. I believe they will have what I need to make the outfit. It can be out of anything as long as the color is correct. The shirt doesn’t have to be a knit fabric, it can be a cotton poplin or something similar with sleeves with the hot pink bolk floral print. I already have some of that, but I have to look over it to see if the print is large enough. I will try to get the design as close as possible, but they will look close. People who are familiar will understand. I think the skirt will be adorable.

You can also check out some of my designs and work on www.tinypawsdesigns.artfire dot com. And also, as I just started another shop on Etsy for my more Couture designs … at www.tinypawscouture.etsy.com. Not for anything but to see what I do. On the gallery pages at artfire are some items I made and already sold on artfire.

First I will need measurements and we can decide on the fabric choice unless you will give me the option to do it. Then I will put up a custom listing for you and when you pay then I will get on it. I know you need them 1st of November so we have a long lead time to accomplish this.

Thank you for the challenge. I figured you decided to go elsewhere.

I will be happy to get started. So, get out your tape measure.

Thanks, Georgina

Hi Georgina!

Here are the measurements for the dogs. I hope you don’t mind, I used this chart because it’s a little more detailed: www.bigdoglittledogclothingstore.com/measuring-your-pet.php. Probably the extra measurements are more relevant for Kaylee, since her outfit is more complicated (plus she’s an older lady with an oddly shaped body, lol).

Jayne (brown ringer tee)
neck: 14.5″
chest/girth: 21.25″
body length: 15″
upper arm: 5.5″
waist: 19.5″
midline: 7.5″
underside length: 9.5″

Kaylee (floral print tee & jumper with skirt and zippered vest top)
neck: 14″
chest/girth: 18.5″
body length: 14″
upper arm: 4.75″
waist: 20.5″
midline: 8″
underside length: 9.5″
also, Kaylee’s legs (from shoulder to paw) are 6.5″ long

I spent an hour or so browsing through the floral prints at fabric.com and found a few that might work:

bit.ly/p0AQZf (Item Number: EE-558)

bit.ly/oDRNJh (Item Number: DS-576)

bit.ly/pZ45ZG (Item Number: BI-575)

bit.ly/oZenzg (Item Number: CS-313)

bit.ly/qUaQtf (Item Number: EZ-188)

bit.ly/r0iGdO (Item Number: DW-206)

The two Michael Miller prints are my favorite, but it’s hard to imagine how well the prints will work on such small items of clothing. Let me know what you think!

Kelly

Kelly | Sep 6, 2011

Oh and for the jumpsuit – would you mind sending me links to some fabrics on fabric.com that you think would work? I assume it needs to be a “stiffer” material than the cotton for the tees, but really I don’t know what I’m talking about! As far as the colors go on the swatches you sent me, they all look good, but I’m wondering if an olive green might work best? Kaylee’s jumpsuit seems to change colors in different pictures; I think in the first one I sent you, it’s a rusty tan, and in the later one, it’s more army greenish. I think the green might go best with the floral tee, but I’m open to suggestions!

Same with the brown ringer tee: it should be rather simple – just a “washed out” medium brown with darker brown accents – so I’d like to see what you come up with. Probably you can find something that works faster than I!

tinypawsdesigns | Sep 6, 2011

Well you have been busy Kelly. The swatches I sent you of the solid colors are “twill”. It is a fabric that wears well like denim, and has body. I would have suggested an Olive, but on the pictures I saw and some I looked at, there was no olive or, if I saw it, I thought you wanted more of the khaki colors since the photos you sent depicted them. Cotton Twill comes in about … it was over 100 different colors. So, I could get any color you like. I like the olive because it will look good on the dogs as Khaki sort of blends in with most dogs. So, I normally stay away from those colors in designing my clothes.

Now as for the print… Riley Blake cottons are awesome and soft and I like them. Michael Miller, I like lots of his. But,you look at the ruler on the bottom of each swatch, you will find Michael Miller’s flowers and prints rather large. Some of them are 3 to 5 inches or larger, which is too large for a pet garment. You would never see the true design. I look for the smaller floral designs because I know the problem. So, it is a challenge to find just the right fabric to do the trick. Not all of those were knits, but a cotton shirt underneath depicts the theme just the same.

As for the other shirt, we may find a camouflage brown that won’t be bold but muted. That would work.

It takes roughly 2 weeks to get my orders from Fabric.com. So, I would like us to come up with a mutual agreement soon. Most of the cost of these outfits will be going to the fabric as I am sure you have discovered. I have lots of zippers on hand. I rarely use them on a pet. Although they would be fine. Most people have problems dressing pets and don’t want to fuss with them.

I am not concerned about the solid colors as they come in almost any fabric. It is the floral I am concerned about.

Thank you for the detailed measurements. They would not fit in my medium sized garments. But as you know there are no real standards for pet sizing. Every designer has their own.

Anyway, I will look some more for the floral and get back to you.

Looking forward to this. Thanks, Georgina

Kelly | Sep 7, 2011

Ah, yes, I was afraid that some of the prints I liked would be too big! I’ll spend some more time poking around today, this time with smaller prints in mind.

Also, it occurs to me that I never mentioned the dogs’ coloring! They’re both rat terrier mixes, mostly white with a little bit of black on the neck and head. I think either a tan or olive jumpsuit would look good on Kaylee. On the other hand, these outfits are for this year’s x-mas card, so the backdrop for the photo will be the tree – and now that I think about it, maybe green-on-green isn’t the best choice? I’ll spend some time looking through twills today too, and let you know.

The timeline is a pretty conservative estimate, so there is a little wiggle room, especially if we go over due to my indecisiveness! That said, I will try to get my choices to you asap. Today’s a busy day, but hopefully I can find some time later tonight.

Thanks!

Kelly | Sep 7, 2011

Hi Georgina,

How do you think these would work for the t-shirt and jumpsuit?

Hoo’s in the Forest: http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=a4b65033-646f-4ca2-bf7f-bad63773b42c

and

Ranger Cotton Twill Pine: http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=bf0ead98-11bc-48aa-a64f-f9b135c783e5

another combination that might work –

Feeling Groovy Cotton Blue: http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=5b454ac7-a198-464a-960d-469112fcfea4

and

Ranger Cotton Twill Pasture Green: http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=c319c0ec-319f-430d-b3bf-011b1ba5e09e

(I did some more looking around, and I think Kaylee does have multiple jumpsuits. I like the green one better, myself!)

If you’d like to pick out the fabrics for the other tee, that’s fine, just let me know before you order them. I’m sure whatever you pick will work. :)

tinypawsdesigns | Sep 8, 2011

I was going to recommend both those twill colors. But they were green so I did not. Either floral should work ok, Although, I cannot get to it without taking a photo, but I have maybe enough of a cotton with small flowers in pink … look at http://www.artfire.com/ext/shop/product_view/tinypawsdesigns/1668141/dog_playsuit__denim_and_cotton_print/handmade/pets/clothing/dogs, the bodice has a floral print that I have in pink. Might have enough.

My computer crashed this afternoon. It is 1 am and I am still messing with recovering my photos etc. Attempting anyway. May have to reformat. May lose everything.

On another older model laptop (thank god I still have it) and it has nothing I can use to reference for you.

I will work on looking tomorrow afternoon later. I have a wedding bow tie and cuffs and a costume to go in tomorrows mail. So I am probably not going to get to bed. I should be getting up in another 2 hours to start my day. Sometimes, it is best to put on the coffee and keep going.

This taught me a lesson, I need to make recovery discs, and I need to back up my data daily. I have a 500 gig external drive that I got for that purpose, but did not do it. So, time to behave.

When I was searching around Fabric dot com, I found a fabric that could work for the other tee. When we figure out all the fabrics, I will put up a custom listing for you, you can pay through paypal, then I will order the fabric. Takes about 2 weeks to get it from them. They get it out fairly fast; however, they send UPS ground and they are awful slow since they don’t work on the weekend. So it will be about 2 weeks before I can get started.

Good sleuthing. It helps to see what you like.

Kelly | Sep 8, 2011

Yikes, I hope you’re able to recover everything! My laptop went kaput on Tuesday (as I was emailing you, actually!), but luckily I don’t really use it for data storage.

Get back to me when you can and in the meantime I’ll think about the floral print and jumpsuit twill!

– Kelly

tinypawsdesigns | Sep 8, 2011

I don’t know. I have to wait until I get the recovery discs. I could reformat the disc now. If I can get in that far. I was there last night and did a rescue, but it did not rescue my data just boot logs. Who needs those. Yuk. I am hoping when I boot from the discs I can get in, get my data, and then reformat. The data is too important.

I am running on no sleep for almost 30 hours, so I am going to take a nap and get up early and press on.

Think on the fabrics. Got an order from them today that I was not happy with. I called and they are sending me a replacement. Laminated Riley Blake fabric that they packaged badly and it came all crunched. Laminated fabric will not straighten. Ironing is not an option, nor is the dryer. It either was the bolt end, or they just squished it in this long box. It looked like corrugated laminated cotton. It was terrible. That fabric must come on a roll and be properly packaged.

Did you look at my playsuit on artfire that had the blue floral fabric?

Kelly | Sep 9, 2011

Oh, yes, that could possibly work in pink! The jumpsuit is adorable too :)

Kelly | Sep 14, 2011

Hi Georgina –

Just wanted to check in & see what’s up since it’s been a few days since we last talked. If you’re okay with using fabrics.com, I think I’d like to go with that first combo for the floral tee and jumper. Unless you have some other fabrics you’d like me to look at? (or another site, lol)

Thanks :)

Kelly

tinypawsdesigns | Sep 15, 2011

I guess I was waiting to hear from you. Are you ready to go yet, I can put up a custom listing for these items as I estimated.

I have been busy putting some new things in my tinypawscouture shop. So had not been in tinypawsdesigns. Sorry for the delay.

Georgina

Kelly | Sep 15, 2011

Did you have a link for the brown fabric, so I can check it out before you put the listing together?

Thanks!

Kelly | Sep 17, 2011

Hi Georgina,

Just checking to see whether you got my last email? I’m eager to get started!

– Kelly

tinypawsdesigns | Sep 17, 2011

Hi Kelly, I had not yet looked for the muted fabric. I knew I could find something. So I don’t have the exact photo you may want to see and approve ahead of time.

I will work on that.

Georgina

Kelly | Sep 18, 2011

Okay! Did you have some other floral fabrics you wanted me to look at in the meantime? Were you able to recover the photos from your computer maybe?

Thanks!

– Kelly

tinypawsdesigns | Sep 18, 2011

Hi Kelly,

I haven’t yet gotten my anything from my computer, have to order new hard drive, new enclosure to put the bad drive in, connectors, software, etc etc., and I have been too busy for that.

I am used to folks telling me what they need, the colors they want, and I go off and run with it. This is a bit different. I normally get the fabric when I see it because one week from now places like Fabric.com for the florals may not have them. The twill is pretty standard. So I order once the order is placed and go on the hunt for everything. I ordered some Habati Silk that they just got in and it was out when they were filling my order. Very sad and they won’t get it in again. I am not restricted to Fabric.com, they were just someone other than Joann’s which I have had some bad fabric there. A few times.

Just thought I would respond and let you know where we are. Custom fabrics take time to select as you have discovered. I know you want special ones.

Thanks,

Georgina

Kelly | Sep 19, 2011

Hi Georgina,

I definitely want to go with these fabrics for Kaylee’s outfit:

Hoo’s In The Forest Floral Pink/Red
Item Number: EJ-754
http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=a4b65033-646f-4ca2-bf7f-bad63773b42c

Ranger Cotton Twill Pine
Item Number: UK-853
http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=bf0ead98-11bc-48aa-a64f-f9b135c783e5

All we need is that third fabric for Jayne’s tee. (Or third and fourth fabrics, I’m not really sure how you make that “ringer” effect on the sleeves and neck.) In the meantime, if you’d like to put up a listing on etsy, I’d be happy to go ahead and submit payment so we can get moving on this!

Thanks.

Kelly

tinypawsdesigns | Sep 19, 2011

New fabrics to look at in interlock knit for tops …. and the muted fabric … The pine is good to go.

The effect on sleeves will be with a coordinating color fabric. But the main one is of importance.

Here are a bunch of links: If you decide today, I will put up reserve listing, and I will order today. It takes almost 2 weeks to get the fabric and then I can start.

Also I did a search on tie dye apparel fabric which is sort of what we need for the one shirt or something similar but muted.

Hi Georgina,

For the floral tee, I’d like to stick with the Hoo’s in the Forest print I mentioned in the last email, if that’s okay.

For the brown ringer tee (images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080301065046/firefly/images/d/d0/Jayne.jpg), I think I like these fabrics (unless you don’t think they’d work for some reason):

Moda Bella Broadcloth (# 9900- 180) Brown

Just giving you an option to have a knit fabric (stretch) in lieu of regular cotton. There were some new ones that I discovered so thought it was an option for you to look at before deciding.

So if we are firm with this, I will put up a custom listing on the prices we quoted earlier. I have the fabric in my cart and will order this morning as soon as the order is completed. Then the fun begins, drawing up the patterns, etc.,

I will put up the listing now.

Thanks, Georgina

tinypawsdesigns | Sep 20, 2011

Hi Kelly, I sent you the custom listing for you to purchase. One of the fabrics you wanted only had 4 yards left. So, to be sure we get it, I need to get it ordered.

If you changed your mind that is ok too.

I will take the listing down tonight if I do not hear from you.

Thanks for your interest.

Georgina

Kelly | Sep 20, 2011

Hi Georgina,

I’m sorry I didn’t get back to you last night, I wanted to take the night to think about the floral fabric. Stretch isn’t something I considered when choosing the fabric, so when you mentioned it, I started rethinking my choice.

I kind of like this print you sent me the other day:
http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=a44154d5-b925-4078-9b83-5dc69a49965c

Do you have any idea how it might photograph compared to a cotton fabric without the stretch? I guess what I”m asking is, is this type of fabric likely to reflect a glare?

Thanks for your patience,

Kelly

tinypawsdesigns | Sep 20, 2011

Well Kelly, it should photograph like you see the swatch. The other fabric
will work also, it just won’t have the stretch of a t-shirt. Since it is underneath, it can really be either one. I just thought I would throw that out for you.

Let me know.

Kelly | Sep 20, 2011

Okay, I think I’d like to go with the Patty Young Interlock Knit Blossoms Raspberry / Item Number: DF-957 instead of Hoo’s in the Forest for the floral tee then. I’m sorry I keep changing my mind! Last time, I promise! Let me know when you update the listing and I’ll submit the payment right away.

Kelly | Nov 2, 2011

Hi Georgina,

Just thought I’d check in to see how things are going. So excited to see the final product!

Kelly

At this point, it’s been 42 days since I purchased and paid for the custom listing. Earlier, Georgina had stated that “It takes roughly 2 weeks to get my orders from Fabric.com.”

tinypawsdesigns | Nov 2, 2011

I just got all the fabric in so it will most likely be late next week before it ships. Will that be ok. I hope you like them.

You wanted a skirt, not cargo pants for the outfit with the floral shirt right?

Georgina

14 days, and here she’s claiming that she just received the fabric. 14 days versus 42 days. You do the math.

Oh, and while I did say that “The timeline is a pretty conservative estimate, so there is a little wiggle room, especially if we go over due to my indecisiveness!,” my waffling cost us a week at most. Given the deadline that she agreed to, the outfits should be done or nearly so at this point.

Kelly | Nov 2, 2011

Hi Georgina,

Yes, a skirt vs. pants on the bottom; I’m hoping you can make a skirt somewhat similar to this (but with a zippered vest on top instead of a velcro strap, of course): http://www.baxterboo.com/dog/supplies.cfm/green-jean-denim-skull-dress-harness-doggles

Let me know if you need any extra info. The sooner the better, but late next week isn’t a problem!

– Kelly

tinypawsdesigns | Nov 2, 2011

Got it, I will fray the edges of the skirt. Thanks for the reference. Georgina

Kelly | Nov 15, 2011

Hi Georgina! Just thought I’d check in since it’s been a few weeks.

Thanks,

Kelly

Thirteen days later, and the seller has not taken it upon herself to so much as send me an update.

tinypawsdesigns | Nov 15, 2011

I was just going to do your mailing label as it is almost done and ready to ship. You should see your label info with tracking hopefully tomorrow.

You have been such a jem. I want to see this picture when it is done. I was thinking I had to do pants and had pants with a side pocket that I designed a pattern for and remembered it was a skirt after we talked last. I like skirts anyway. Unique. I am assuming you are dressing to go along with it.

Thanks a bunch Kelly,

Georgina

Kelly | Nov 15, 2011

Sounds good! Thanks so much, Georgina!

– Kelly

Kelly | Nov 22, 2011

Hey Georgina! Just wondering whether the clothes had shipped yet, as I haven’t received any tracking info or a shipping update. Also I really hoped to have them in time for the holiday weekend.

Thanks much,

– Kelly

Another week goes by. No shipping notice, no update from the seller.

Kelly | Nov 23, 2011

Georgina?

At this point, I’m panicking. The chance that I’ll have these outfits in time for the Christmas cards is rapidly fading.

(Just for reference, I always photograph the dogs, costumed and standing in front of the tree, in early December, since it takes time to design, order, assemble and mail the cards. If I begin the process the week after Thanksgiving, the cards usually arrive at their destination the week before Christmas. Here’s the proof. Check out the date stamps on the holiday photos.)

I decide to order replacements online. I spend $74.13 at BaxterBoo and another $30.94 on Amazon (below).

Gegt back when back online.

In spite of the stress and frustration, I have to laugh. Even though she claims to have already sent out my order, Georgina doesn’t purchase shipping for said package until after the fact. Strange, that.

Kelly | Dec 1, 2011

Georgina –

I still haven’t received my order, even though you told me that it had shipped priority mail a week ago. According to the tracking number you provided me, you alerted USPS of a shipment on November 22, but they have not yet received it. Nor does my order status on Etsy reflect that the order’s been shipped. I need those clothes in the next few days if they’re to be used for their intended purpose. What’s going on?

Kelly

Fun fact: I’ve already received my BaxterBoo order at this point. Looks like we will have a Firefly Christmas after all, even if it isn’t with my first choice of outfits. And the second batch cost me even more moolah than the first. But still! Kaylee Frye and Jayne Cobb!

tinypawsdesigns | Dec 1, 2011

Well Kelly, they left last week. I am not sure why it did not show up in tracking but sometimes it doesn’t. Please let me know if they show up. Or, I could try to re-create them again. OMG. This is awful. It was a lot of work and they turned out nicely.

Thanks, Georgina

Kelly | Dec 2, 2011

Georgina –

I called USPS customer service three times today and spoke to three different reps. Each of them told me that they don’t have record of the package actually being picked up/dropped off. According to USPS, they never physically took possession of the package. Do you have any proof that I can take to them to show that the package was actually sent out?

– Kelly

tinypawsdesigns | Dec 2, 2011

I have the same information you have. I have done my research on my end and get the same response. It was picked up and mailed during our storms and I am very worried.

Because of this I have started to redo the entire order and even if you get this one, I am going to send a second one out. I don’t know where it is except to say I sent it and I will resend another order. Please let me know if you get it. I spent hours on this today trying to get it tracked down. Something has happened and I don’t know what.

The only thing I can do is make it again and if you get both you will have extra. I will personally take it to the post office myself and get a signature confirmation on this for my own protection as well as yours.

Thanks,

Georgina

At this point, I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I won’t have the custom outfits in time to actually use them in the Christmas card. Luckily, I’ve found – and already received – replacements elsewhere. I decide to give Georgina the holidays to complete the new set of outfits and, if we can’t get the issue resolved quickly in the new year, I’ll ask for a refund and/or follow up via a complaint with etsy. Perhaps I should have been more persistent at this point, but I also wanted to forget about the whole gross mess and enjoy the holidays. Can you really blame me?

Kelly | Jan 11, 2012

Georgina,

It’s been more than a month since I last heard from you. At the time, you said that you were going to send me replacements for the Kaylee and Jayne outfits that were lost in the mail, but I’ve yet to receive an update on your progress. Even though it’s too late to use them for their intended purpose – i.e., in this year’s Christmas card – I’d still like to have them. However, if you’re unable or unwilling to make a second set of outfits, I expect a full refund. Please let me know what you’d like to do. Now that the holidays have passed, I hope to resolve this matter quickly.

Thanks,

Kelly

Another 40 days pass. I swallow the growing knot in my stomach at having to relive this conflict and message Georgina.

tinypawsdesigns | Jan 11, 2012

OM Goodness Kelly, I thought you got the first order as I was waiting to hear back from you. I asked if I could make a second set because I would feel better about it.

I am horrified.

I will get them done immediately. I must have not understood. I was thinking about them this morning and wanting to contact you and find out how they fit and if I could have some pictures to see them.

Please, give me a couple days to complete them and they will be right out.

Thank you for contacting me, but I thought you got them and I did not get them back.

I will redo them right away. I still have all the information. Thank you for contacting me.

Thanks so much,

PS. Their measurements haven’t changed have they?

Georgina

“I thought you got the first order as I was waiting to hear back from you. I asked if I could make a second set because I would feel better about it.”

NO.

Georgina didn’t ask if she could make a second set, she outright told me she would: “Because of this I have started to redo the entire order and even if you get this one, I am going to send a second one out. I don’t know where it is except to say I sent it and I will resend another order. Please let me know if you get it.”

I did not message her to let her know I got it; ergo, it’s safe for her to assume that I DID NOT GET IT. Besides, it doesn’t matter, since she said she was making and sending replacements REGARDLESS.

Kelly | Jan 11, 2012

Georgina,

No, their measurements haven’t changed any.

Thanks,

Kelly

tinypawsdesigns | Jan 11, 2012

Good grief Kelly, you are a saint! I would have been going nuts by now.

I want them to be as nice. It took a bit as the skirt I had to hand fray to look cool. But I really thought it turned out well.

Anyway, I will be working on them right away. They may not make it out of here until Monday’s mail as I don’t want to make them badly to rush them out the door. So, I will do my best to get them out before Monday Mail. I will send them to you with a signature needed this time. That way I will know where they went and who got them. Hope that is ok.

Thanks for getting back,

Georgina

tinypawsdesigns | Jan 11, 2012

I was just at the Post Office site to schedule a pick up for this and discovered that Monday is a holiday. So, if I don’t get it done for shipment Saturday, it won’t make it until Tuesday. Anyway, if it went Saturday, it would just sit in the post office and wait. So, I will most likely mail it on Tuesday.

I will keep you informed of the progress.

Thank you,

Georgina

Kelly | Jan 11, 2012

Georgina,

I’d much rather you send it UPS, given the number of issues I’ve had with USPS lately. However, if you choose to send it USPS with a sig required, please address it to my post office box, as I’m not always home to sign for packages.

Also, please don’t feel the need to rush your work as I’ve no pressing need for the outfits anymore. If you need a little longer, just keep me updated.

Thanks,

Kelly

Really, you too. I had another mysterious issue, she got it, but, one month later (sent overnight) I received a phone call from them asking questions about the shipment. But it had already been sent, and she already got back to me with a photo. Confusing. Then, on the pickup, they had two pickups at my home one day (notified me by email) but I only had one item that was picked up early in the day about noon. Their second pickup from somewhere was 4 in the afternoon. Not from my house. Got knows where they picked up that.

And another one, I did dog clothing for Walt Disney for a pet movie and it was sent priority. Nothing, not a word on the tracking, nothing. I went nuts, I called everybody and nobody saw it or had it. Yet, finally I got word it got delivered not in the 3 day time frame but about a week later. Fortunately it made it in time for the filming.

Not sure what is going on, but will send UPS for you. Not sure if they will pick up, but I can take to town or print a label I believe and drop it off.

I will get it done for you next week for sure.

There seems to be something happening with postal shipments. But they generally are really reliable.

I can skip the signature thing, but please, I will let you know exactly when it goes out and I would very much appreciate you letting me know when you get it.

Actually in 2 years I have only had 3 orders with problems. I resent one 3 times to a lady that did not get hers and we never knew why or where they all went. They were bellybands and she ordered 2. I ended up making and sending 8 of them (sent a couple extra for her trouble). Never got one back. She got one of the orders (she said). But that order cost me big time. I sent the last one over a holiday overnight and it never made it in time and the post office hastled me for sending and using online labels for express mail, stating the online service has no right to agree to a delivery date over a holiday.

Seems like the right hand doesn’t talk to the left hand and I am in total confusion of what they are doing. When you talk to central they say all is ok, but our local guys don’t agree.

So, I will be much relieved when you receive these.

Thanks Kelly,

Georgina

Another ten days go by. No shipping notice, no update from the seller – even though this time I explicitly asked her to keep me updated on her progress: “If you need a little longer, just keep me updated.”

Kelly Garbato | January 21 2012 5:54pm EDT

Georgina,

Last Wednesday you told me that you’d get my order out some time this week, probably Tuesday, and that you’d email me if you needed more time. Either way, I should have heard from you this week – and yet here it is, Saturday night, no email. What gives?

– Kelly

tinypawsdesigns | January 21 2012 6:39pm EDT

Hi Kelly:

I don’t know if you have been watching the news or not, but my area has had 2 storms and another coming through. We have been out of power including today for close to a week. At least 30 different power outages, no phones, internet, electricity, 100 plus winds and now flooding. I have not had email until earlier today and then it went out for 3 more hours, been picking up debris and trying to get put together quickly before it goes again.

Internet had trouble and was out as well even when power went on. Cell phones are almost not working. I have had Verizon send me another one which due to the weather conditions won’t get here until Monday. On top of that got a phone at grocery store and it doesn’t work either. So I am in a mess. Not your fault. I am doing what I can. I know at this point if power stays up, I can have them out this Tuesday. If you don’t hear from me it is not because I won’t it is because I cannot.

I am having trouble getting this done inbetween the power going out and coming

back on.

.I will get it to you quick as I can.

I just have one more thing to finish and it will be ready to mail.

Tha nks

Georgina

At this point I’ve resolved to file a claim with etsy. I offered her the choice of either refunding my money or sending replacements – “Even though it’s too late to use them for their intended purpose – i.e., in this year’s Christmas card – I’d still like to have them. However, if you’re unable or unwilling to make a second set of outfits, I expect a full refund. Please let me know what you’d like to do.” – and she seems unwilling to do either.

And then, a shipping notice appears!

We wait about a week for the “package” to arrive (the joke’s on us! there is no package!) – a reasonable time to expect delivery – and then Shane, having taken over the matter from here, initiates contact with etsy. After talking to several customer service reps, he files an official complaint.

Non-delivery Case #936275278

Feb 17, 2012

Kelly Garbato says:

This is an auto-generated response:

Reason for opening this case:
Non-delivery

Have you contacted the seller?
Yes

Has the seller contacted you?
No

Again, I’d like to reiterate what I said here: When opening the case, etsy’s form forces you to choose between two binary options; only later can you elaborate on the details. To the question, “Has the seller contacted you?,” Shane chose “No.” Georgina interpreted this as a claim that she hasn’t responded to our emails and messages; indeed, she has, and this isn’t what Shane meant. Rather, he was referring to the general lack of communication and updates. See above for multiple examples of this.

Feb 17, 2012

Kelly Garbato says:

At this point, we want a refund. The seller has twice claimed to have sent out the item, and we’ve never received it. The seller said she would send the second attempt via UPS, she did not. The seller has never given any proof the items have ever been made. We’re tired of the back and forth and would like to just have a refund.

Well Kelly, will be glad to refund you the difference between the special order fabric (which I will mail off to you tomorrow). It is my second order for that fabric so, I don’t feel since I would never use it, I have ordered it for you etc., that I should refund you money that was spent for that twice.

So, I had not yet sent yours as I had trouble with that durn skirt again and ordered new fabric, thought it was going out, nevermind, no need to tell you anything. You lied to Etsy saying I did not respond to you because I always have responded. No point in discussing this further. I will take responsibility for the second shipment, but not the first one. I never received it back.

So, Check the tracking on the shipment for tomorrow afternoon and you will see the fabric is on its way. You can have someone else make it. It is not that easy. Also, these are fabrics that I would never use for anything, special ordered for you. I am sorry you did not get the first shipment, but I made the second shipment label with more to do on it and ran into trouble, ordered more fabric and have not had time to remake them again. I have no proof that you did not get the first shipment or, if your neighbor did or what. But I have purchased this fabric twice, and will give you the benefit of the doubt. I will split the fabric cost and refund you the difference between these. By the way the fabric you chose for the shirt doesn’t stretch and needs care to make it to fit correctly for the animal. I learned that the first time around. You also have to make special binding for it which I did the first time.

So, I will give you the difference between the fabric, shipping and refund you that amount. All you had to do is email and ask. I have not heard from you since I last emailed you.

The second shipment is completely my fault as I have not had time to fix and make new since I got the fabric. I did not want to go through any hastle with you just get it out. But unfortunately you are right, it has gone on long enough. I am out garments from the first shipment which has never turned up anywhere as I have kept watching the label. The second one I had trouble with, thought it would go, and when I wrecked that last garment, I had to reorder fabric, so I did, Just got it. I am out the first set of garments, shipping, fabric from the first order and am going in the hole for you. So, I will split the difference and refund the 38.52, and then I will expect notification of receipt of the fabrics. Closure on the case. I am sorry for any problems on the second order. But the first one is not my fault. I made them, sent them, and with no signature, they are somewhere.

Thank you,

Georgina

“You lied to Etsy saying I did not respond to you because I always have responded.” – Again, that’s not what we meant. This misunderstanding is wholly attributable to the limitations of ety’s generic forms – not any deception on our part.

“I will take responsibility for the second shipment, but not the first one.” – The seller kind of already did accept responsibility for the first shipment, when she offered to replace it. Not that it matters; I didn’t pay for the hope that I might get the outfits – I paid for the outfits. Which the seller can’t even prove she shipped.

“By the way the fabric you chose for the shirt doesn’t stretch and needs care to make it to fit correctly for the animal. I learned that the first time around.” – I made it obvious from the get-go that I didn’t know anything about sewing or fabric and would require the seller’s guidance in choosing materials appropriate to the project. Indeed, Georgina reject some of my early choices because the prints were too large for such a small item of clothing. If we settled on fabrics that weren’t suited to their intended use, that’s her fault for not catching it. She’s the professional; I’m not.

Items made and sent. Buyer “claims” never received. No signiture on shipment. My fault.

In good faith, made second set, had problems with not enough fabric left from original order and had to order more fabric. Fabric received. Items not made, Fabric not something this shop would ever use. Special ordered specifically to her preferences.

Second shipment IS my fault. Be happy to refund the difference between fabric actual cost and shipping which comes to 38.and change. Special order fabric will be sent with “SIGNATURE REQUIRED” 2/18/2012.

I am out the entire cost of first garments, shipping, etc. Have no clue where these are, and I only have her word she did not receive them which I have no reason to doubt, which is why I offered to make them. I just have not had the time since receipt of new fabric.

Buyer, if she in fact did not receive them, has every right to be concerned. I on the other hand have no idea where they are as they were shipped from my location. And I have every right to be concerned as well. So, the fabric will go to her and I will refund the difference. If she wants to wait until she actually gets the fabric, fine.

She should receive it on Tuesday or Wednesday as Monday is a holiday.

As for no response from Seller. That is totally incorrect. I have responded to every email sent by the buyer, just check the convo’s they are in my shop completely.

Had Ms Garbato asked for a refund directly, I would have been absolutely thrilled and ecstatic to provide one for her.

Georgina Quinton

“Special order fabric will be sent with “SIGNATURE REQUIRED” 2/18/2012.” Even though we rejected this settlement, Georgina shipped the fabric to us anyhow – via USPS, and without a signature required. In fact, she used the second “mystery” shipping label from February 2nd.

“I only have her word she did not receive them which I have no reason to doubt” – LOL. Except clearly the seller keeps doubting it.

“Had Ms Garbato asked for a refund directly, I would have been absolutely thrilled and ecstatic to provide one for her.” – I did, a month ago: “Even though it’s too late to use them for their intended purpose – i.e., in this year’s Christmas card – I’d still like to have them. However, if you’re unable or unwilling to make a second set of outfits, I expect a full refund. Please let me know what you’d like to do.”

Also, this is me asking for a refund now.

Feb 17, 2012

Kelly Garbato says:

We do not want the fabric, we want the money refunded. We have no use for fabric, what we paid for was the end result, which we’ve not received.

Both times items were shipped with “Delivery Confirmation” and neither were delivered. That is proof enough that items were never delivered.

This is us asking for a refund and noting to etsy about non delivery.

Etsy Support:

This is a non-refundable custom order. Order was made and shipped. Customer “claims” non receipt. I frankly am not sure this is in fact true. I am giving her the benefit of the doubt.

* I have not received it back, ever. It has had sufficient time to get back to me.

I offered to make it again and then had problems.

SECOND SHIPMENT WAS ‘NOT SENT.” i REPEAT…. SECOND SHIPMENT HAS NOT BEEN SENT. Why, not enough remaining fabric, and problems when I was trying to get it done in a hurry and discovered it would not fit the size requirements because not enough fabric. And she ordered fabric for a shirt with no give and not enough to make it pliable enough to go over the dogs head. I knew she would not be happy with items that would not fit, so I Ordered more (36.00 … 2nd purchase of fabric). That is not her fault or mine. I never expected to have to make it a second time. The fabric is not anything I ever sew with.

In all due respect, I am trying hard to not feel the buyer got the items and now wishes to get full refund. I wish to split the difference. Give her the fabric she ordered and her refund of the difference. Eat the cost, labor, etc., of the first shipment.

I am sending the fabric to her. It is not something I can use.

I am refunding her the difference.

“Customer “claims” non receipt. I frankly am not sure this is in fact true. I am giving her the benefit of the doubt.” Calling me a liar? Does not equal giving me the benefit of the doubt.

“And she ordered fabric for a shirt with no give and not enough to make it pliable enough to go over the dogs head.” Georgina keeps complaining about the fabric chosen for the project, but again, I solicited her feedback CONSTANTLY. I asked her to let me know if the prints I liked would not work. She greenlighted them all.

Finally, it’s not surprising that I don’t want to “split the difference” or pay for fabric that I’ve no use for. I paid for a finished set out outfits, which I never received, and for which I actually ordered replacements elsewhere at the last minute. It’s simply not fair to ask me to eat the cost, whether the items were lost or not. (It’s my theory that the seller got in over her head, couldn’t complete the first set out outfits, and never mailed out the original order – just purchased some postage online so that I’d think she mailed it. But that’s neither here nor there.) The seller determined the shipping options. I gladly would have paid for UPS with delivery confirmation or a signature required or whatever pricey security options they offer. If she chose inferior shipping with no protection for her own interests, then that’s on her.

Re: Case Number: 936275278 Report filed on: Feb 17, 2012
Transaction Number: 58788243
Item(s):Custom Listing for Kelly

Dear Ms Garbato:

Please read shop policies posted on http://www.tinypawsdesigns.etsy.com regarding custom orders which particularly state custom orders are non-refundable.

The following issues are present:

– Order was made and sent using US Postal Service

– Buyer “claims” non receipt and notified Seller

a. Seller agreed to remake/redo garments when possible.

– Original shipment to date, has never been returned to seller as mis-delivered, mis-directed, wrong address, etc.

– Seller to date, has not shipped second shipment to buyer.

a. Garments would not have fit. Not enough fabric left from original order for completion.
b. Additional fabric purchased
c. Items not yet made
d. Custom fabric not useable by seller, specifically to buyer specifications

– Seller Costs to date
– 73.00 Fabric
– 12.00 shipping
– 2.00 signature required
– 14 hours original labor

– Buyer alleged Seller did not respond to Seller convo’s in original claim. Statement incorrect as evidenced by all conversations between Ms. Garbato and Tiny Paws Designs to date have clearly been responded to and are in fact on file.

– Against Posted Shop Policies, seller agrees to refund cost of sale minus cost of custom ordered fabric.

– Seller giving buyer benefit of doubt whether garments were in fact “not received.”

– Seller acted in good faith to redo a second order based on buyer’s claims and attempted to utilize remaining fabric.

a. Fabric insufficient, seller convo’s indicated finishing touches to be made and then garments would be shipped; however, were unable to be made based on fit, sizing, with balance of fabric from first order.
b. Seller willing to refund buyer based on inability to get second order shipped in a timely fashion. In fairness to both parties, seller will refund the difference between custom order fabric and total cost of order.
c. Any additional costs incurred by buyer and seller are by buyer/seller choice and not part of resolution.
– 1. Original cost of fabric and shipping, minus total cost, will be refunded to buyer as a fair resolution to this transaction. Custom ordered fabric to be shipped to buyer 2-18-2012.
– 2. Costs for labor, 2nd purchase of 4 different types of fabric, shipping, and any additional costs incurred for notiions, etc., will not be deducted from total cost by Seller now or any future date.

Oh, this email gives me feelings!

One new point I’d like to address: “Please read shop policies posted on http://www.tinypawsdesigns.etsy.com regarding custom orders which particularly state custom orders are non-refundable.”

Well yeah, if I ordered a custom outfit and then simply changed my mind, this would be applicable. But this “policy” is irrelevant if the seller doesn’t deliver on the custom order, which is what happened here.

Feb 17, 2012

Kelly Garbato says:

In addition, we’d like to add. As for proof that we received the items.

These clothes were for Christmas photos for two of our dogs. When it looked like the seller wasn’t going to make a deadline for taking the pictures and sending them out, we were forced to buy generic outfits that kind of looked like what we originally wanted.

The Christmas photos and receipts for the purchase of back up items can be documented.

Feb 21, 2012

Kelly Garbato says:

We are still waiting for a full refund from seller.

Feb 21, 2012

Kelly Garbato says:

The seller has attempted to send us something using a shipping label that was previously printed out to send the items we still haven’t received. We are not accepting whatever is in the package, as we had not agreed to it.

Fabric on this order was selected, chosen by buyer. These garments and fabrics are not my style or designs. These were ordered specifically at Her Request!

Cost to Seller 77.10 Fabric
12.15 Shipping

Not to mention 13 hours of labor for first order she CLAIMS TO NOT HAVE RECEIVED!

I believe I have been scammed.

Kelly Garbato says:

Seller continues to extend this needlessly. A full refund what we asked for. Deducting shipping costs for something we didn’t ask for makes no sense.

As for being scammed, the seller provided the following shipping label number:

9101128882300004281688

Anyone can call the post office, or check on the website, and see it was never delivered, and perhaps not even actually shipped. Accusations from the seller of being scammed do not stand up to the facts.

Feb 28, 2012

tinypawsdesigns says:

$12.15 is actual shipping costs for two shipments.

Easy Vegan is well aware I paid for the shipping and she was very gracious to add additional charges to Tiny Paws Designs by refusing shipment of the fabrics she in fact selected and ordered. Fabrics and a design that I DO NOT USE OR MAKE. CUSTOM NON REFUNDABLE ORDER.

EASY VEGAN HAS BEEN ISSUED PAYMENT FOR 63. 70. The total cost minus shipping for 2 shipments. None of the fees incurred were deducted. None of the costs of the fabric purchased were deducted. None of the labor costs for making first order was deducted. I feel this is fair and reasonable.

I WILL NOT send one more dime for a buyer scam. It has already cost me the cost of the order and much more.

Etsy Support: You may close my shop if you feel it is necessary for $12.15.

I have rights as a Seller and will pursue them.

Feb 28, 2012

Kelly Garbato says:

We know the seller payed for a shipping label, but the label number provided to us never indicated it ever was shipped or delivered.

It would be impossible for buyers to manipulate the USPS.com website to show non-delivery. It is the sellers responsibility to ship the item, not the buyers. Sellers policy of non-refunds does not apply in cases where 1) no proof of item being made was ever presented, ie no pictures 2) item was never delivered 3) tracking information provided by the seller does not show the item was in fact shipped.

Seller can try to claim she’s being scammed, but the shipping info seller provided works against her.

Seller ruined the 2011 Christmas picture project and has caused great stress to the buyer.

Feb 28, 2012

tinypawsdesigns says:

FIne Easy Vegan.

LETS GO TO COURT! I have seen an attorney and am ready to go to court. Only this time it will be for all the expenses I incurred making your items. I have rights as a Seller. I have given you a fair and reasonable refund.

It is not customary to make pictures of something like Easy Vegan wanted when I WOULD NEVER EVER SELL IT IN MY SHOP. Why on earth would I want them? It was fabric I would never use. In fact the outfits were in my opinion not my style at all. I had to use zippers and non stretchable fabric, then she added that I had to fray the skirt AFTER the estimate was made in accordance with a picture from another site. Adding additional time and expense not in the original estimate. I shipped the original garments.

If you are so desperate for 12.15, lets deduct more shipping. How about the shipping costs, the fees incurred, my 13 hours of labor for sewing the garments, the extra fabric purchased to make the agreed upon second shipment. Lets deduct all of that, and you will owe me.

I ordered, made, shipped those garments in good faith. I still believe that you received them.
I surely never got them back. So where are they????????

I am sorry, this has gone far enough. I ruined nothing, You are causing a 69 year old woman severe stress. Lets take all of this to court. I will not refund 12.15. I am being ripped off.

“It is not customary to make pictures of something like Easy Vegan wanted when I WOULD NEVER EVER SELL IT IN MY SHOP. Why on earth would I want them?” – For your own protection? To prove you completed a custom order and completed it stunningly, should it get lost or damaged in the mail? As an example of past custom work you’ve done?

“I had to use zippers and non stretchable fabric, then she added that I had to fray the skirt AFTER the estimate was made in accordance with a picture from another site. Adding additional time and expense not in the original estimate.” That picture of the frayed skirt? It was in the very first message I sent to Georgina. I included it as an example of what I wanted the bottom of Kaylee’s jumpsuit to look like: “Specifically, I want to dress two of my dogs as characters from Firefly/Serenity, so I need a brown ringer t-shirt for Jayne (e.g. rpggamer.org/uploaded_images/JayneCobb12.jpg) and a long(er) sleeve floral print t-shirt and mechanic’s jumpsuit for Kaylee (beingruth.com/images/kaylee1.jpg – but with a skirted bottom vs. pants, perhaps similar to this http://www.baxterboo.com/dog/supplies.cfm/green-jean-denim-skull-dress-harness-doggles ).”

“If you are so desperate for 12.15, lets deduct more shipping. How about the shipping costs, the fees incurred, my 13 hours of labor for sewing the garments, the extra fabric purchased to make the agreed upon second shipment. Lets deduct all of that, and you will owe me.” – Here I start to get the feeling that the seller underestimated the amount of work this project would entail, and failed to complete it due to cost, time, and/or skill. If cost was an issue, again, it was the seller who set the price. I gladly would have paid more for these items. In fact, when Georgina first quoted me $34.95, I thought she meant per item, for a total of $104.85 – a price I called “reasonable” at the time! If the cost of the raw materials proved to be an issue, again, not my fault. Ditto: if it was more labor than she expected.

The seller responded with:

“I have the same information you have. I have done my research on my end and get the same response. It was picked up and mailed during our storms and I am very worried…..Something has happened and I don’t know what.”

I have taken all my items down.

I am closed.

I am not sending you any more money. I have no more to send.

I cannot take this one more minute. You have cost me so much money and I don’t have it. I am not a wealthy person, and have no other income.

Kelly, I really believe you shafted me. I really do.

The stress of this is more than I can stand.

I hope that karma takes care of you properly for what you have just done to me for 12.51.

I am not going to send you any more money. The 63.70 is fair and very reasonable. Your fabric purchased twice cost me more than the total. Doing your
costumes was a real hardship. I hated them. I hated doing something that looked less than what I normally do. I was thankful to have them done the first time.
My hands were sore from the skirt shredding. The shirt was less than perfect because you chose fabric that has no give. So, making it to fit properly was a struggle.

I had to make patterns the whole ensemble should have been twice what I charged you. It took me over 13 hours to complete because I did not count the pattern design.
I made them. I shipped them, I still don’t believe you did not get them. But because I was upset about you saying you did not, I wanted to remake them. I thought I could make them with what
I had left, and I could not. I had to re buy the fabric. Luckily they still had it. That took almost 3 weeks to get. I tried my best.

I don’t have a factory to use lots of people to make things, it is just me. I have no car, I depend on others to get things to the post office and use post office pick up when possible.

I did my best to get you something you would be proud of. Even if it was not my style, it is my pride to make them nicely.

You have just bankrupted me and I hope you can live with that.

The stress you have put me through is more than I can handle at my age. It is too much. It is easier to walk away ……….. I cannot fight one more minute.

I in good faith made you quality garments. I just cannot believe you are doing anything but getting the garments and then asking for a full refund by claiming you never got them. What took you so long to say you did not get them? It took you a very long time to do that.

So, you can refuse all you want, I cannot give you any more. I will not be responding any more to your comments. Whatever will be will be.

I tried to give you the fabric. So, I cannot afford to resend you any more to have you refuse it again. You would just cost me more money.

I am so sorry you came to me. I am so sorry I even accepted your order. I regret it more than you know.

You know, when I first read this email, about a month after the fact (at this point, Shane was handling the matter, and all emails sent to my account were being forwarded to him and archived on my end, so I wouldn’t have to deal), I felt really bad. So much so that I almost decided against publishing this page. And then I read it a second time, and a third, this time paying more attention to the half-truths and undeserved bitterness. (Really, what’s with all the hating on the Kaylee and Jayne outfits? Not frilly enough for you? Too low brow?) And I got really, extremely angry.

“Doing your costumes was a real hardship. I hated them. I hated doing something that looked less than what I normally do.” That’s funny, because earlier, before I filed a claim with etsy, the seller seemed to be pleased with her work: “It was a lot of work and they turned out nicely. ” and “I want them to be as nice. It took a bit as the skirt I had to hand fray to look cool. But I really thought it turned out well.” But now the garments are garbage and it’s all my fault somehow.

“The shirt was less than perfect because you chose fabric that has no give.” And the seller okay-ed and ordered said fabric. After I asked her to tell me whether my choices were appropriate!

“I had to make patterns the whole ensemble should have been twice what I charged you.” – I gladly would have paid twice what the seller charged me! Again, it is she who set the price. (And I might even have been willing to renegotiate the deal if she had come to me and explained the situation. Money wasn’t an issue here. Or at least it wasn’t my primary concern.) If she underestimated the amount of time and skill that this project would take, then that’s her fault, not mine. The bitterness directed at me? Undeserved.

“I just cannot believe you are doing anything but getting the garments and then asking for a full refund by claiming you never got them. What took you so long to say you did not get them? It took you a very long time to do that.” It took me exactly one week – from November 24th, when I received the shipping label, to December 1st, when I messaged Georgina to report that “I still haven’t received my order, even though you told me that it had shipped priority mail a week ago.” I don’t think a week is “a very long time” to wait for a package that was shipped via USPS, and not for overnight delivery. I also contacted her multiple times both before and after this date, when she kept claiming that the items – and their replacements – were nearly finished.

Look, I didn’t put a gun to anyone’s head and force them to make dog clothes for me at pennies on the dollar. I contacted Georgina – one of many etsy shops I messaged – told her what I needed, and by when. She bid on the project and won. She set the price. She agreed to the deadline. She okay-ed the fabrics I chose, after I plead ignorance and asked multiple times if they were appropriate. Once the listing was up, I purchased it and paid promptly. And then I waited. For weeks. I didn’t receive my first order. I complained to the seller and offered her a chance to send a replacement. I waited. Again for weeks. Still nothing. I complained to the seller, this time asking for a replacement or a refund. She swore up and down that a replacement was in the pipelines. I waited. For weeks. Nothing. And so I filed I complaint. In the meantime, I spent even more money on dogs clothes to use as a replacement for the custom garments I really wanted. I did nothing wrong here.

Georgina, I’m truly sorry if this incident bankrupted you. I’m sorry to see that you’ve removed all the items from your shop. That’s not what I intended to happen. I just wanted what I thought was fair: a full refund for an order not received. If, after all this, you still think that this was some elaborate con on my part to scam you out of $75, then you’re even more cynical than I. Congrats on that. I swear on my dead cat’s ashes that I never received those Kaylee and Jayne outfits. He’s not yet a year gone, and we were forced to euthanize him to boot, so I hope that means something to you. It does to me.

Perhaps I seem vindictive in writing this; but for me, it’s a form of catharsis. I suffer from anxiety and depression, and this incident caused me a great deal of stress. I dislike conflict immensely, and every time I had to contact you about a late or missing order, a great ball of anxiety settled in the pit of my stomach; sometimes I would carry it around for days. This is me purging myself of all that stress, frustration, anger, and helplessness. After today, I shall never think of you again. At least until I see something I like on etsy (but can’t buy because they suck and are as good as dead to me), or get the notion of custom ordered dog clothes again (never, ever again).

I’m sorry you accepted my order, too. I’m sorry I didn’t spend a little more time searching for mass produced clothes online; maybe then I would have found the items I eventually did use, and wouldn’t have started with the whole custom order nonsense. I wish this hadn’t happened. But I don’t believe for a second that any of it was my fault.

Today (March 30th) I donated the entire purchase price of the order – more than what was refunded me by the seller – to Friends of the Friendless, the awesome group in Lexington, MO that saved Kaylee and Jayne. I hope they’re able to do something shiny with it.

I don’t want your money, Georgina; I just wanted my Kaylee and Jayne outfits.

Now can hit “publish” and turn the page on this nightmare horror story for good. (Hyperbole, who me?)
