On Notice - ASPCA, PETA & HSUS

Fuck PETA, and fuck the ASPCA.

And yes, I’m a little late on this one, but that’s what happens when you step away from the internets for 20 minutes to shave and shower.

While we’re at it, let me apologize to y’all for ever – on any planet, in any and every universe galaxy* in the cosmos – defending PETA, even when the defense was just. Because this shit? Holy Christ. PETA’s jumped into the pornography business, full tit. (Full tilt, I mean. Wait, what did I say?)

Misogynists, speciesists, pimps and animal killers – who needs ’em?

* Updated 11/19/09: Yes, I’m a dolt.**

** Also: I left a comment on the aforementioned PETA blog post, politely chastising the author for failing to mention Pets Alive’s eagerness to take Oreo off the ASPCA’s hands. That was last night. Twelve hours later, and my comment has yet to be approved. I’m not holding my breath.

Kinship Circle: UPDATE/ Vick’s Dogs: Clemency For All But One

UPDATE:

1. Vick’s Dogs: Clemency For All But One

DATE: 10/2/07
FROM: Wayne Johnson, seiku [at] tmail.com
SOURCE: Wayne Johnson, The Coalition to Save Vick’s Dogs

At the end of August, Kinship Circle issued a letter-writing campaign, Salvation For Vick’s Dogs, asking you to plead with the U.S. Attorney’s Office (Eastern District of Virginia) for mercy for pit bulls seized from Michael Vick’s dogfighting compound. We now receive news that all but ONE of these dogs will likely be spared. While this is a victory for 48 previously doomed pit bulls, we cannot help but grieve for the one who will die.

The team of behavioral experts assembled by the ASPCA filed a motion in Federal Court on Tuesday saying that only one of the remaining 49 pit bulls seized from Michael Vick should be euthanized. According to the motion the dogs fall into five categories that include adoption and specialized training for law enforcement.

The motion requests that the court appoint a guardian to oversee the disposition and possible placement of the 48 remaining dogs. The judge hearing the case, Henry Hudson can either grant the motion or deny it.

I want to thank all of you who made this tremendous news possible. Let us hope and pray that the judge accepts the motion and may God bless dog 2621, who will be euthanized.

Subject: Michael Vick Pleads Guilty/ASPCA President Invites Letters of Thanks

Dear ASPCA Members and Supporters:

With Michael Vick today appearing in federal court to file his plea in the federal dog fighting case that has been pending since July, I wanted to let you know directly that today we revealed our role in the federal investigation: ASPCA Forensic Veterinarian, Dr. Melinda Merck, participated in the excavation of the graves, and examination of the remains.

It has been an honor for the ASPCA to assist federal authorities in this case. We are also extremely proud to be working with the National Football League to raise public awareness of the humane treatment of animals. The NFL took strong, swift and decisive action against Michael Vick on Friday by suspending him indefinitely without pay.

Please join the ASPCA in sending a message of support to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, as well as the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Inspector General, USDA, letting them know that their efforts are not going unnoticed: http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=cruelty_letters.

Bills allowing protection orders for pets are proving quite popular this year, and this session Tennessee joined the ever-growing pack of states recognizing that pets often get caught up in domestic disputes. …AND NEVADA PROTECTS PETS, TOO!
