Best In Books

1. Best Book You Read In 2014?: That’s a hard one, but imma go with Not A Drop to Drink, by Mindy McGinnis. It was my gift to myself last Christmas, and hoo boy how do I spoil myself so.

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?: Eating Sarah by Jaret Martens. I won an ecopy through Library Thing and it took more than three months to arrive, which only added to my anticipation. Unfortunately, it was just bad, bad, bad. For example: the author killed a character and then brought her back 50 or 100 pages later, her death seemingly forgotten. Huh?

3. Most surprising (in a good way or bad way) book you read in 2014?: Julie Berry’s All The Truth That’s In Me. Every time I thought I knew where it was headed, it threw me for a loop. Also, I liked that the setting could have been either colonial America or some future landscape; the setting is that ambiguous, without sacrificing in detail.

4. Book You “Pushed” The Most People To Read (And They Did) In 2014?: Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials, this year and forever.
